What can I do to make the loading time of my mod quicker?

At the mo I have to go and do something else for a few minutes for it to load. And I have a pretty good computer too: 2 gb of ram.

Just answer his question rather than telling him off for not posting in the right section. A helpful mod would have moved the post.

The_J is kindly looking in on a forum that he does not moderate in order to answer some of the questions of those who need help. He isn't required to spend his time here, the same as the rest of us aren't required to help people who post.

He did answer the question, and he wasn't rude as far as I was concerned. He was short and to the point, and I will be as well: Instead of criticism, why not contribute something positive to the thread? If you have something to help the OP, then by all means say so. Lipping off a mod does nothing but get you a lecture from people like me, who actually appreciate their efforts in keeping this place running.

Seriously you guys if you can not help the OP then please do not be rude to him and then me because he "posted in the wrong section".

Simon, he did answer the question. He gave the correct answer and the information is applicable to the OP's question. Whether the OP was able to solve the issue or not, he was provided with information that would help.

As for The_J being "rude" to the OP, I'm sorry, but I don't see what he said that was rude. We often suggest that someone with a problem like this should post in the modding forums, and the reason that we do is that the poster will get a faster response from a modder that can help. The_J is an accomplished modder, and knows of what he speaks. I would have given the same suggestion, and the same answer to the OP.

As for me being rude to you, yes I was, and I was for a reason. You flamed a moderator seemingly without noticing that he had provided a response, and he was trying to help. He pointed the OP at a very good tutorial on how to decrease the load times for mods. You ignored that fact and proceeded to criticize for his apparent tone to the OP. I can see how the tone of the post may have been misconstrued, but valid help was given. What made me cross with you was your tone.

And just in case you think that I'm trying to score bonus points here, I can assure you that I am not. I just simply can't accept someone flaming someone else for trying to help out. It makes the rest of us not want to help anyone.

You're new here, and possibly don't know me. Let me introduce myself. I'm the most hated woman on the forums, and now you know why. Feel free to add me to your ignore list.

I know it would be really, really best if I just didn't say anything and I hope you don't take this the wrong way... but 95 times out of 100 the mods are right, nice and trying to do what's best, in what they say and / or do. While they do make mistakes pointing them out doesn't always help and that job often best left to Admins or the site owners. This goes for just about any forum on the internet that isn't some kind of hive of villainy and scum. I moderate on another forum and saying things like what you said Simon can often irk or irritate mods and can get you warned or banned.

I'm sure the mod don't need me to defend them but I'm just trying to let you know that you should at least read and then re-read any thing a mod says before you disagree or try to correct them.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I wanted to ask J something as well as put in my worthless 2 cents.

J, do you know of any other ways to increase loading time and turn speeds for mods? Rise of Mankind and A New Dawn in particular? Also again I know, wrong forum.

Perhaps I can help a little.

RoM and AND are very big mods. They have a lot of things to load up, which is what takes most of the time. You can help speed things up by making sure that your XML caching is turned on, and also that you haven't disabled the PAK memory mapping. The file caching function should also be enabled. These items are in the CivilizationIV.ini file.

All of these things can significantly shorten the load time. I'm sure that The_J knows of some others, and hopefully he has time to answer.

I hope that helps a little, at least. :)
