yes, well written post there- not the easiest game on the market thats for sure

side note- notice that Chitzen Itza gets little respect as a wonder
    - of late Oracle- Code- Chitzen Itza - build can allow one offensive flexibilty when facing duel opponents- been having fun with both scout field of vision and defensive position slaughter (counter attack)

in essence my contribution- i suggest one should not forget the basics- See all threats afor they reach you- and to rip off the boy scouts- "be prepared" - focus on build can -at times -blind one

I haven't read everything and I'm a monarch player but you have stone and a philosophical leader. Why not build the pyramids and run a SE? SE works well with drafting and the Ottoman's UU is an excellent drafting unit.

I was going to say the same thing :D. Plus have the +3:science: +4:) can grow the cities bigger to work more of those cottages in the capitol to support more cities before courthouses are built.

btw, great walkthrough Teacher! Not so Ignorant after all;) hehe, keep it up so noble, even prince players can have a better idea on REX, diplo, ect.. Kinda reminds me of Orion's Noble walkthroughs, more detail though.

    That's a terrific idea. I'll do so after I post part 2.
I think Chicken Itza gets more respect in multi-player where the attacks can be coordinated in different cities. In single-player, the AIs usually follow the one giant Stack of Doom pattern so it is less attractive to focus on defense. After all, it's one big battle then it's mop up.

Well, I didn't go for the Mids for a couple of reasons:
1- I'm trying to keep the wonders to a minimum. I'll only build the Great Library and the Parthenon until Democracy.
2- We only have four sources of happiness in the continent. Later we'll be able to trade for more, but our happy cap wouldn't be greatly improved by Representation. It only works for 3 cities IIRC.
3- Hereditary Rule works for every city and has no limit.
4- Representation specialists are great, but I'm aiming at doing the things the most reproductible I can and the early wonders are not a given.

Now that I mentioned it, what do you think: should I completely ignore all world wonders, including the Great Library and the Parthenon?

Even in a game where I end up building "no wonders" I often come away with the great library. I can think of almost no situation where a noble level game should not have this wonder go to the human player. As such even if you build no other wonder I would build this one and show just how powerful getting 8 GSP can be for the mid game.

Probably, given that wonder addiction is a common problem. That's the approach I've been taking in my efforts to produce a basic template for Noble openings (not yet published).

One thing I think you are missing is a clear description of the position you are aiming to achieve.

I think you shouldn't. Although low level players often build too many wonders, some wonders can be used for excellent strategies (like the great wall) which can be very useful even on higher difficulties.

on a recent emperor, standard, fractal- spear build thing i managed to get the great wall, the oracle, and chitzen itza- holding in tech- (and at the expense of expansion)

however- expansion delima can be nullified by cut off by border barb cities- taking them when one will-

i suggest knowing what wonders you want and taking those you can is the superior

Yeah, that's important. I'll take a look at what I've written so far to try to make that clear.

Almost all the wonders are useful on every level I've played. The thing is: getting a wonder is something you do in a game, but don't do in the next one so relying too heavily on them can lead to an imperfect gameplay. (As I said in the OP, my favorite leader is Louis XIV. How do you think I feel about wonders? ;)). But in this game, I'll build none.

Heh, true that. Wonder addiction was costing me much more than they were worth so I swore them off completely for a long time. Now I build them but, only sparingly.

I'd go ahead and build Parth and the Great Library. It's the easiest way to get a GP farm up that is viable through to high levels.

Ooo... This should be pretty helpful if I ever go noble. If ever. :D
What program or mod lets you plot dotmaps with those white crosses? Would be so useful to know.

Nice work here IT! I'll be closely subscribing to this thread to check for any tips and advices that you can give us.

I've been lurking for quite some time now, and it appears that most of the people here favor the worker>let city grow for N population>warrior/settler/worker build. But everytime I try that, AI would always beat me to juicy spots in the map. So that is why I'm forced with a worker>settler>settler opening (and thus mining>BW, so you can chop the 2 settlers).

So, does the worker>settler>settler works in emperor and above? Can somebody explain to me the merits and demerits of this kind of opening? :D thanks

The Parthenon is great if you can build it without putting off too many other necessary things. The consolation if you don't get it is that the National Epic is available at the same time as the GL so your GP farm is still pretty effective regardless.

I've gotten in the habit of building the Parthenon in whatever non capital city I have with the most trees to chop and it usually finishes as the capital is finishing the Great Library.

Thanks everyone for the appreciation. I was really unsure when I posted this whether it would be helpful or not. Glad to know I could help.

It's the BUG Mod. You can learn more about it here.
I've never tried it, but I know it is effective up to Deity because some people did it in a somewhat recent deity challenge. I think you should open a thread asking that question because I can't help you a lot there. Sorry.
