My workers are fighting back!?!

I dunno if this is a glitch or a hallucination of being up to late but here's what happened:

I'm playing a game as the Greeks, and after winning a diplomatic victory, just for fun i decide to blast the aztecs and germans into oblivion with some stockpiled ICBM's (i've got a decent science advantage).

After levelling a few cities from each, all of a sudden some of my automated workers start running into my cities that are building more ICBM. My mechanized infantry open fire on them, killing them instantly. This is really f'ed up . Maybe it's programmed in the game that some of your workers revolt if you begin nuclear apocalypse, but i'm not getting much disorder and my luxury rate is pretty high. Help!

Its a bug. Ive encountered it in 2 or 3 different games, post and pre patch. It wasnt fixed, in other words.

IMO, it shoulda, its a miserable bug to deal with. 8(

Or are they just peaceniks or the green element amongst your workers rebelling against the nuclear warfare? i.e. a deliberate, albeit undocumented, feature.

I've seen this happen too, but I thought it was because the cities had a food shortage at the time and didn't want to let anyone in.

This is a real bug. I have experienced it to.Unfortunatly out of all the people I have talked to about it,the only way to fix it is to start over.At first you start noticeing that your workers are disapearing,I didnt think much about it though.But after i searched cities for them and couldnt find them, I had to make new ones, they too soon disapeared, I didnt find out why untill I trieds to put troops into one of my tlowns and they battled. I recaptured my town,had to kill off all the troops in it just like an enemy town.then I figured all was good.Nope, tried to move in another unit and my unit I took the town with attacked.Its a bug I havent even seen Fireaxis or Inforgrames Address.
One or more towns just suddenly decide that they are enemy territory without switching sides or anything, they still show your colors and all that, you can still controll production, and such, but you just cant protect it anymore, unless you build troops in it and leave them there.All other unist are seen as enemies.Go figure.
Its no halucination its a real bug. It doesnt happen in every game, just seems to occur randomly, and only occasionally happens. No one seems to have figured out what causes it so at least it could be avoided.

I've had that happen too. Suddenly my mech inf. was fighting with my own workers. It upgraded to an elite unit and I also got a leader out of that

Didn't we have something in Civ I where a city would change sides but not colour?

You're right... pillage the earth until there's nothing of value left, then slowly starve to death. It's the only way to go.

I have had this happen too when using ICBM's. However I found if you save the game and reload it the ghost enemy units in your cities with disappear and your workers will be happy again. When this happens just look at the troops in your city, you will find one or two enemy units, "that you have no control over." When your workers get close to that city, they see them as a threat and try to retreat to the closest city. Most of the time the very one that has the units in it. Another way you can clean out the ghost is by moving all your units out of the city. Then re-enter it, very important that you remove all the units first or you be kicking your own units butts.
Another glitch I found is if all of an enemy's city's have been took over and they have a settler in a boat and that boat get sunk, the game will crash under Win XP and maybe others OS's also. I am not happy with the Quality of Civ 3 at all.

If anyone should be shot, I, er, uh....it is those that would screw up our environment for a few dollars more.

Anyway, back on topic, I've had this happen once and I thought I had been playing too long, shut it down and did the same thing the next day and the same thing happened.

I had just assumed that they were there to represent the sane opposition to my fixation on world destruction

I personally buy empty cans of areosol and go out and set off 30 or 40 of them daily.My Bronco Has a big ole' 351 inside that creates so much polution I love it!!The power! I was more pissed of when Clinton tried to make a whole bunch of ocean,in international waters, outside of US territory a national monument.What a waste of our taxpayer dollars and governments time.Now even more time is haveing to be spent for Bush to repeal a stupid rule that Clinton made up in oceanic territoy that The USA has absolutly no jurisdiction over. Or go cut more fisherman hooks off so more of you can drown or get hit by boat props. Lets watch a few more greenpeace people die from their boats being turned over by the whales they are trying to protect. Uggghhh. Why do people think that even if if we quit releasing gases and chemicals into the enviroment that all will be good. Livestock release roughy 80% more methane into the atmosspere every year than the whole worlds population of humans are responsible for.Oh but I guess if we didnt eat meat then we wouldnt need the livestock.True you have me there. So why dont we all go have some Alphalpha sprouts and tofu cakes? Oh yeah, we have to cultivate thouse thing dont we? Thate means we need live stock and such for fertilizer and mahines which produce toxins to harvest and care for it, and toxic chemicals to put on it to protects it from vermin.You enviromentalsits would all die if we let you try and fend for yourselves, you have proven this time and time again.We should let you, and stop intefereing with the natural selection process.
