Mysterious SSL exchange

I bought a computer from IBM, with win2k installed. I noticed that every time I power it up it in win2k, it exchanges a bunch of SSL (secure socket layer) data with www-3.boulder.ibm.com. It doesn't start a new process when it does this - it may have a DLL hooked into the system.

I would write an email to the Boulder IBM site to ask them what this SSL exchange is doing, but that site is not reachable from my browser, I guess because my home machine is not inside the IBM corporate network.

Has anybody seen anything like this?

It might just be looking for bios or software updates.

Probably. It would be nice if they notified me before they started sending data in such a sneaky way....
