(NAB) Culture Boundaries not including Ocean ?

My nine-year old son found C3C installed and started playing it in his not very sophisticated style. He selected two opponents playing on an archipelago.

I walked past him and saw an unusual cultural boundary that seems to exclude ocean squares. So Korea seems to own an isolated offshore square. Is this normal ?

No comments about his playing approach please - he plays to build lots of units, and wonders so he can see them on the city view screen **, and to play with the palace building view. He is not really interested (yet) in the finer points of trade, expansion, manoeuvring skillfully, making war and winning.

** PS so he is REALLY peeved that the new wonders are not shown in the city view.

Ocean never was part of your cultural borders in Civ3/PTW (unless it was a tile a citizen could work on, like you may see in some custom made maps). It doesn't produce anything anyways until you get a harbor, then it is only 1 food. (Before getting the harbor, if you work that tile then you just get a red shield like you do when trying to work a polluted tile).

Edit: Just think of it as oceans are always considered 'international waters'.

Bamspeedy - sounds reasonable, I didn't cross check with a similar map in old CIII or PTW. But would that explain the isolated Sea tile that is included in the cultural boundary ? It cannot be worked as it is too far away. Just curious ... it just seemed unusual.

China - yeah, well, he has lots of fun when he gets the chance play on the "grown-up's computer". He actually played C3C before I did - I installed it, and just dabbled a bit, and he discovered it the next day before I got a proper game started.

This is not a bug. The *ONLY* time you'll see culture in the ocean is on modded maps where the ocean is inside the city radius.
