I don't know how many caravels we are going to build, but a list of names would come in handy. I think it was commonly agreed that the first one should be named "The Civius". This post contains a list of agreed names and a list of propositions.

EDIT: This thread will deal with the naming off all kind of ships. A naming system is under construction below, please feel welcome to join in the debate

May i suggest we have a pattern for naming so we can easily identify what type of ship it is just from the name. For instance name all Caravels after Demogamers then name Frigates after our cities and so on.

I definately suggest putting an SS (Sailing Ship) or something similar before the ships name. This way the player and the ship named after him cannot be confused. Does that make sense?

As far as names I like the idea of
    Caravels- Dgamers
    Galleons- Cities
    Frigates- Historic episodes

Then Iron Clads should be named after our leaders.

We have 4 named caravels right now named after CoA leaders, I would suggest we never rename ships, its bad luck.

Here are some more suggestions though:

Ships of the Line: Named after Government Establishments, such as the Public Square, Estates General, or even RP Establishments such as the Council of Venice or Poverty's Pub.

Privateers: Named after controversial current events in the Dgame, to make it sound pirateish...

I like that one TCN. When are we going to build Privateers? :)

May i suggest a few changes

    Caravels: Dgamers
    Galleons: government and RP Establishments
    Frigates: Cities
Ships of the Line: Historic episodes
Iron Clads: named after our leaders.
Privateers: Named after controversial current events in the Dgame

I think Frigates, which will probably be larger in numbers than other warships so by naming them after cities gives a decent name pool. Galleons will be build in quite large numbers so there might not be enough names. Also it's a personal preference, I name frigates and destroyers after towns in my games when organising a fleet. Historical Episodes should be used to name Ship of the Line as they are the biggest of ship and will be a symbol of power and naming them after key moments in our history will only strengthen that view.

I named the caravels after COA for the simple reason it fit well.

Playa El Civ, Vra, Civius and Provolution all fits the bill for early Age of Discovery ship names as caravels, with the prefix HMC (His Majesty Cyc), but not as well for frigates, galleons, privateers, ship of the line and then modern ships.

Caravels: Named after COA Leaders (one caravel for each on the rooster)
Frigates: Named after Arethanian inspired names for strength, power and valor (The Yenarii Tempest.... and so on)
    Galleons: Named after our cities
Privateers: Named after Controversial current events
Ship of the Line: Named after Arethanian Key institutions

I also agree with Joe on the main outline there.

In fact I believe SOTLs are kind of the "flagships", so shouldn't they be named after leaders?

Updated OP. I need info on our current names.

I agree, Ship of the Line should be named after our kings.

Ironclads should be more of a steampunk "modern" name, like Merrimac, Monitor and so on.

An Arethanian ironclad should be named in style with our various RPG manufacturing corporations emerging, I think, to reflect an industrializing society.

HMC will change when we replace the King. If we want to abstract it, we could also say His Majesty of the Crown.

I like his Majesty of the Crown, as I would like to keep the navy very organized and similar.
