Naming Units

I always name ships. I don't usually name units individually, but I do when they produce a MGL. I always name the unit after the leader they produce. I also name the army it produces as the name of the original MGL.

I've started naming units...especially in the MP TGW Div Multiplayer 1.0 Scenario which I am playing. I do it more for tracking the units so I can see which ones survive and how long or which ones go on to produce GLs.

So far I have just named them by their designated unit name, then add the year of the war (1914=1) and the week (1-52) and finally the city that they have come from. I haven't posted the names of the units in battle reports except for the names of my Corps (Armies in the scenario). Examples:

German A Inf 142-Breslau
German Inf R 140-Berlin
Flamethrower 144-Hannover
Kavallerie 143-Hannover

Corps are based on historical German WW1 commanders:
Wyorsh's 1st Corps, Falkenhayn's 4th Corps and Ruprecht's 5th Corps...Hindenburg's, Ludendorf's and Moltke's Corps have all lost...

Arty is simply numbered: Railgun 1, 210 MM Gun 2, Siege Gun 1

I haven't named subs & dest yet but probably will...unfortunately all of my pre-named High Seas Fleet was defeated by the British Royal Navy, but my first rebuilt Dreadnought will be commissioned as the BB Redemption or BB Victory or BB Rurprecht (his corps has had a nice run at it has taken out several enemy corps!).'
