Narrating the pets - are you crazy too?

I've had dogs all but a few weeks of my life. Often, my parents or I will "narrate" the dogs - that is, we'll assume an unusual voice and speak as though we were one of the dogs. For example, if the puppy is wagging her tail and jumping up at my mother, I might narrate "mommy! hi mommy! can we go out? i want to play! pay attention to me! mommy! hi mommy can we play?". I'm pretty sure it sounds completely freakin' ridiculous. What's more ridiculous is when we have conversations that way, like my father narrating for my dog while I ask her whether she found any squirrels at the park. We've always done this, and although if I think about it, it's very weird, it's always something we just do without thinking about it.

Now, I know this is absolutely crazy and probably sounds very stupid. But I want to know - do any of you do this?

:cowboy:

I don't. It may just be your specialness. Every one is nuts in their own way.

I guess it is kind of like lolcats. It's just that it's out loud, live-action, real-time, and sometimes extended into a short conversation.

I do it! If another family member walks in and talks to the cat, I will automatically talk for the cat. No-one seems to find this in any way creepy...

I'm crazy, but not as crazy as you ;)

I'll talk to the cats, which is utterly pointless and both they and I know it. Although of course they look for an opportunity - they're probably having some idea along the lines of "he's paying attention, maybe I can get a treat".

I often tell/shout at the cat I'm not going to feed her, which I'm sure she interprets as "He's going to feed me if I keep this up"

Heh, yeah I've done that with my cats for ages. Perfectly normal, Lucy, don't fret any.

I'm glad I'm not alone! :D

I do it for babys, but not animals...

You talk for them? 'Cause I think a lot of people talk to animals and babies.

What do they talk about?

The stuff they like, mostly, and the stuff they don't like. They like going to the woods, they like treats and squirrels. They don't like baths or being left alone. There's a lot to it!

I do it too, but not as my cat, but talking about my cat.

Not only do I narrate the pets, I also narrate objects and people ;).

 My mother does it for any animal that enters the garden, from the birds to our half-adopted cat, and I'm pretty sure she does it to any animal she meets. My Granny complains continuously about people who do such things to their pets, but she talks to her crow and her hedgehog that call her garden home.

Perfectly natural, perfectly strange. And of course I do it myself.
