So I'd like to hear what you all do with your empires regarding National Wonders. If you have more than 7 cities, do you often simply ignore NWs? Are there any NW you still go for with a wide empire? I play emperor/immortal and typically always have small empires.

When I play wide, I tend to start with a few tall cities and puppet conquered cities. I do not annex the conquered cities until after I build the national wonders that I am interested in. I always prioritize National College, Iron Works, and Circus Maximus. These can all be built relatively early in the game before the expansion/annex push starts midgame.

I never won vs Emperor/Immortal with a wide empire that I built myself. It naturally becomes wide when I'm paving a domination victory, which comes way after I get most of my NW's.

I usually stall my empire at 3 cities until I finish Heroic Epic, Ironworks, National Treasury, National College.

Then I widen my empire to 5~7 depending on the state of the game and landscape. My friends who play with super wide empires ignore wonders entirely Q___Q (and then lose terribly to me in the late game)

Oxford and Hermitage gets the short end of the stick. I buy University/Opera House for every city depending on which one I need earlier (I can't afford both). Oxford for Astronomy ocean rush, Hermitage to finish some vital trees.

I forgot about Hermitage. I generally only build it when playing for a Culture victory which is best with a small/tall empire. I find that Piety has been nerfed too much with G&K and don't play for a Cultural win so much any more...and thus don't build Hermitage as often.

Many games I play I find that I do not build national wonder or that I build them late. I Useally chose to expand instead which maybe is better or worse.

The national wonders for me do not look as intresting as having a bigger army, more cities and dead enemies.

National College, Iron Works, and Circus Maximus all help with these goals.

I usually stay at 3 tall until I get the National Wonders I want. NC, National Treasury, Hermitage, and IW are my favorites. They almost always all go in the cap. But you must not forget the National Epic or the Heroic Epic. I stack the Heroic Epic, a Barracks, Armory and Military Academy in my cap. Then I put Brandenburg Gate in there as well and I buy troops from there. Pale Death.

Also dont wait too long for Oxford or you will waste it.

The only one that I always build is NC. Often the strat is 1 city until its down, though sometimes I'll build 2nd/3rd, most often buying the last library.

All the others are ones I build if I have the chance and it matters.

How about for rapid expanding play style? Do any of you REX and just ignore National Wonders?

Yeah, I don't seem to enjoy building tall empires anymore. While REXing I make sure to get the NC without it is almost likely to fall behind in tech without efficient spying. Other NWs are optional especially while razing stupid AI cities I often give up on these altogether.

NC is the only "must" for me. Everything else is "well if it happens then it happens".
