Natural Wonders Expanded

Introducing New Natural Wonders! Wowie!

I will be adding more natural wonders and expanding upon them as a whole. My focus is gameplay, variety, wonder, and balance. If too many Natural Wonders end up getting added I will come up with a way to only generate a certain amount based on type of natural wonder and map size. I will also add game options if it gets to that point and options are needed.

I am remaking natural wonders as they are. I am going to make them more than a pretty piece on the map and wish to expand on them a bit more. Each one should be distinctly different, if possible, and be a strategic resource. Something that wars could be started for. Something to develop a city around. The uses of some may not be apparent unless you know the location irl.

I am also going to go with 3 different paths with the tile improvements. You can build either a religious site, an improvement around wildlife, or an improvement based around working that specific kind of wonder.

All textures and models are being made from scratch and will be done last. For testing, there will be a placeholder model. I'm going to finish the other bits first. The release version, far from now, will only include fully finished wonders. The testing version will be for feedback.

Please ask any questions or discuss anything you want involving this mod mod. I am open to anything and everything. I will make my own decisions though and will not go out of my way for anyone. I am happy to take things into consideration or fix any glaring issues.

Sorry for the unrealistic release date. I am very busy and have had many setbacks as of late. Quite a bit to handle and my other projects took a hard hit as well. I have many responsibilities and things will get done as I can get to them. I also stream under votumthetortoise on twitch. I am currently doing a complete playthrough of C2C to get a better handle on what I want to do with this mod mod and potentially others.

  • Adding animal spawns based upon real world locations and what animals exist in C2C

The Cave of Crystals... is that the senote the Mayans buried a bunch of their people in? That senote (I know its one of number of them but there was a very special site near one of the pyramids there on the Yucatan if I recall) would be a really cool natural wonder come to think of it.
 
Makes for some fun future possibilities... I am thinking it could also be useful for the planned underground I saw in multimaps. Like how I also want to include the Mariana Trench in the future that can tie into the underwater map. For now, I am just planning stuff for wonders that fit in line with what is done currently. I am personally in love with the crystals in that cave as I enjoy spelunking and I also give tours through a local cave. I can imagine what is must be like walking through such extraordinary crystals deep underground and how mesmerizing the formations must be. The other elements of it potentially provide more aspects of gameplay to make the wonder, and thus other wonders once I learn more, more versatile and meaningful.

I decided to also go ahead and add the Mariana Trench. I needed to make a water wonder as well for practice. This way I have my bases covered for starting on wonders. I am going one by one with wonders and will release the mod after I make the first natural wonder.

I am slowly getting the big picture of how things work and will start once I have all or at least most of the pieces. I also need to finish my development set-up as I am very OCD on everything having a place and in its place, even if I have copies of the same file in different places. This will not affect anything as the duplicates are only for reference. The simpler I make it for myself and the more complete the information I possess, the easier and better the project will be.
 
Since Missions do not seem that bad I am going to be adding one to the Mariana Trench when I make it, as I dont think it will be useful to city vicinity where it spawns, as well as Everest as I think it would be interesting. The Challenger Deep Mission I will try to make unique in some way but we will see.... I am unsure at this time how the trench Natural Wonder is going to work. Opinions would be appreciated if anyone has any ideas.

We might actually have both of those... If we don't already have National Parks, I really like the National Park idea as something that maybe can only go on natural wonder tiles perhaps.
 
I was thinking about Natural Wonder only Tile Improvements. The wildlife thing I will look into, I was trying to think of something that would maybe increase or preserve animal spawns from a specific Natural Wonder. Then if animals become obsolete they improve into a version that just gives bonuses. If they do already exist then I will look into tying in what I'm doing to what there already is or maybe figure out an equivalent name to use. As I research the wonders I will try to find more things to use for Tile Improvements / Buildings / etc.
 
A wonder that could be tied into it is World Heritage Site and could also be a potential Tile Improvement. I believe there is a UNESCO Wonder? Edit: I did not see one. If not then I can come up with something.

I think there IS the wonder, though maybe not a matching tile improvement - that said, the national parks are often both.

No difference in function. I wanted a tile improvement for preserving animal spawns and/or increase them based upon what I decide upon playtesting. Was gonna base the animal spawns for natural wonders off of how the reef sharks spawn in the Great Barrier Reef. I just checked in game though. As stated before in other thread I am very busy and have not had time to check due to my responsibilities. Since I am playing a game now, I know that both of those are taken as I checked the pedia. I will think about another option... for now I'll just combine my ideas into the National Park tile improvement. Sorry if any of this stuff was bothersome as they were in game. I should know better having played it for years but my games... last over 6 months for 1 game. I don't bother to remember every detail as I have quite a bit to do. Thanks for the feedback so far though.. Ill combine the list of all tile improvements and all other aspects into my documents when I get a chance so I'll be aware next time.

No don't worry about that. I'm just trying to say - look at this sort of thing and do we see enough cause for there to be a similar thing to it and is it different enough to warrant that. I don't expect you to know everything. I once suggested on AND that we introduce a swarm unit that represented a bunch of nanobots going around tearing everything to bits - no idea we already had the nanoswarm. I know the feeling.
