Naval battle experience

Is it possible that there is a lower chance to loose hitpoints in a naval battle, when another ship has bombed the enemy first?

As I understood the game mechanics, there shouldn´t have been any diference, but in this GotM I got the feeling that it is an diference.
Is it only me or do you have an similar experience?

I doubt strongly that this would be the case. In any case I haven't noticed it.
