NBA: Kobe Bryant vs. Allen Iverson

These two came out of the same draft year. Which do you think is better?
I'd have to say Iverson despite all the media around Kobe. Sure, Kobe has 3 championships but if Iverson had Shaq on his team, I bet he could have had 3 championships too. Besides that Iverson led the 76ers all the way to the NBA finals(they lost against the lakers), could Kobe have done the same without Shaq? I doubt it.

I agree with you on this matter, but I prefer Kevin Garnet or even Regie Miller are both better than this two mentioned.

Kobe is more arrogant and has too much chutzpah, but I'd say that in the end of the road he is the more talented one.

Reggie Miller? Maybe back when he was scoring 8 pts in 20 seconds to beat the Knicks, but even that would be a stretch. Cheryl Miller's brother averages 10.3 pts, 3.5 ast, and 2.3 reb a game in 29 minutes. Compare that to Iverson at 28.9, 6.1, and 3.8 in 43.7 minutes (he is 1st in the league in pts, steals, and minutes) and it's not even close to a comparison. You may have an argument with Garnett, but right now I think Iverson is the best non-Shaq player in the league. And I would rate Bryant a better player, although clearly he will not be at the top of his game this year.

I wonder what is the statistic comparation between Bryant and Iverson. If it's in Kobe's favour I'd still think that Alan is better player. Sometime statistic could be apparent.

And if you add McGrady in bunch you have 5 best in NBA on that position, by my oppinion. ..I hope I didn't forgot someone.

Tim Duncan anyone?
He may be boring, but he's the best player in the NBA. (maybe excepting Shaq).
The Spurs may not be leading the standings right now, but they're getting there. They just needed to get the new players in the system. Right now they're on a seven game winning streak and Tim Duncan is a huge part of that.
In only one game this year he didn't produce a double-double, and in that game he went of with an ankle sprain after 7 minutes. He may be boring as hell, but he'll always give 100%, which results the best power forward in the game.

But Iverson-Bryant...
Tough call...
For a shooting guard, I think I'll take Paul Pierce...

I think Iverson is the better of the two, and I agree with Darkness that Tim Duncan is the best player besides Shaq.

I don't know if I can say alot about Shaq's "skill", I mean he doesn't really have any moves in the paint, he's just really big. Tim Duncan certainly has more moves in the paint. Duncan reminds me of Olajuwon in his prime.

I think that Kobe vs. Iverson is a tough call (I'm trying to prevent Kobe's anti-Philly remarks from biasing my post).

I think winning definately have to be a factor, that's why I've always said that there is no question that AI is better than T-Mac. Iverson is a better at getting points, but Kobe is better at defense (the fact that he is 6 inches taller is a good part of the reason). People used to criticise Allen Iverson of being selfish, but I know that's not true (he's proved he can do very well with tallent when playing at the olympic qualifier, and I think he played at the Olympics with Georgetown).

Anyway, because I factor in winning, dispite the fact that AI is probably, pound-for-pound, the best player ever (although maybe Mugsey Bogues comes close ), I put Kobe Bryant slightly ahead (inspite of the fact that he plays on such a talented team).

I'm not sure if I can put the winning factor in when its Kobe vs. AI. I mean if AI had Shaq on his team, I bet he'd be winning 3 championships also. We all saw how much the Lakers won without Shaq last year when Kobe tried to lead the team. He may have had about 35 points per game but the team was doing pretty piss-poor.

*ok Iverson shoots to much, with a bad percentage. Sure he plays his heart & soul out, but he takes to many shots away from his teammates.
*Kobe is good allthough a bit selfish
*McGrady is overrated, he's got incredible talent but missed the heart & soul to be a real superstar. He doesn't make his teammates better & he doesn't care enough about winning. You can say all you want, but you don't loose 19 straight games (even if your team sucks) & care about winning, which seperates the good from the real superstars. Just look at some of the box scores from McGrady during the loosing streak, he didn't give his heart & soul.. Can you envision Iverson, Kobe or Pierce on this Magic squad and loose 19 straight?
*Pierce is the most underrated player of the bunch. He lacks the athletic abilities that the others have but you'll never see him tank a game. He works every year to make himself a better & more versatile player. You wont see him laughing in the 4th QTR when his down by 17 points like McGrady does. He'll probably put on a bad face & begin a scoring fest.

But when talking about the best players in the league who are truly unstoppable, there's only Shaq & Duncan. No chance to win a title without any of these 2.

Kobe, man. That's why people will remember him in 20 years, but no one will remember Iverson.

I would take Iverson over Kobe. They are both great players obviously but Iverson has more grit. When the Lakers are getting shellacked Kobe looks like he wants to cry. Kobe has the advantage of playing with Shaq. Last year when Shaq was out the Lakers were very beatable, when Kobe was out the Lakers still rolled.

I think Garnett is the best player in the league but I may be biased. If he played in New York people would already have him in the Hall of Fame; he hasn't had much support in Minnesota until this year. He certainly has the most complete game of any player in the league, he can play all 5 positions, four of them at all-star level, defencively as well as offencively. That said he and Duncan are only a hairsbreadth apart. I love watching the Spurs and Wolves play and KG and Duncan going head to head (Duncan plays with a lot of emotion in that match up, he even talks trash and they both got ejected in one game*), those games should always be broadcast worldwide as an advertisement for the NBA.

Off topic: when I got off of work tonight the Wolves were beating Indiana 75-40. Is there any doubt that the Eastern Conference is the Junior Varsity league this year.
