Need an OCC tip, Please.

The Game : OCC ,Diety against the AI, Normal Random Map, 7 Civs, Raging Hordes

Ok we are not up to digging thru the paulicy & do not need any links.
Could Smash or some OCC player just tell us if you have to make
a beeline for the smallest fastest space ship to beat the AI at Diety level.
Started on turn three with two whales ,silk & a non Horseman but no rivers.
We were way ahead and and trying to get a bunch of the
future techs and building the max size spaceship when all of a
sudden we get attacked multiple times on the same turn by our
ally from three sides at once with almost every weapon except tanks.
We had the U.N. but they refused to meet with us. So much
for a stupid AI that we hear you all talk about. The A.I. on the mac
Version seemes quite capable on Diety! They also built a Spaceship
and sent it off before we could even finish the small one.

So after that lesson in Humility are you OCC players focused on
building a spaceship and sending it off as soon as possible?
Or did we become too much of a threat by discovering mobile warfare?

As long as we are at it do you only get to build a Hydro-Plant
in a city that has a river?

Yes, I make the smallest, fastest SS possible. Get Fusion and get there quick... score is not the object... a fast finish is paramount.

Don't bother with FT or a Max SS! Get that small, fast SS launched, then build a strong defense around your city! Switch to Fundy or Communism, if it will help.

YES!

No, but the AI prizes Mobile Warfare more than almost any other advance (level 8, I believe). They will always want it badly!!


As long as we are at it do you only get to build a Hydro-Plant in a city that has a river?

In theory, a city must be on/next to a river or ocean. In practice, I often see cities that should be able to build a hydro not have that option, and some that should not, do. Since I almost never build a hydro in OCC, and never in "regular" SP games, I have not examined just why.

In OCC, I build a Power Plant, or Nuclear Plant, and that's it. Hydros are too expensive, and pollution is irrelevant, since I have 2 engineers standing by ready to clean it up (if necessary).


BTW, Smash is probably the best OCC player around, and can probably give more insight into all this.
 
well,in OCC you are not going for score so the smallest ship is best.15-3-3-1-1-1+ Fusion is 15 years.If you can launch while turns are still in 10 or 20 year increments then A 15-1-1-1-1-1+Fusion is the way to go.That takes 36 years to land.

I would not bother with a hydro plant.It just costs extra to build.Use a power plant and 2 engineers for pollution.Nuclear plant comes too late.

Forget the future techs for now.Once you have Fusion sell all your science improvements and turn scientists into taxmen.Also max taxes.Use the cash to help with the SS and/or rush defenses and defenders after launch.

Don't build the UN.Thats 600 sheilds that could have went elsewhere(SS) and as you saw,it ain't always effective.Especially when you get the "Contact" bug where peace treaties turn to contact without any formal notice.

several players have been getting good results with smaller cities
Darwin's-bit of a gamble to let the ai build it..they don't pick the right techs most often..stuff like Theology or Amphibious Warfare

maybe-Marco's-for contact and tech exchange,alliances etc
Gardens-there are situations where this is helpful
Leo's-if you have time it can update your settlers and boats..generally a not though
Lighthouse-maybe if your island bound with vast oceans all around

Well, there's stupidity; and then there's programmed paranoia! Your case sounds like the latter variation, with some elements of "cheating" (i.e., the failure of the U.N.) thrown in to make the frustration complete!
