I hope some of you might give me some tips here.

Everytime I play on regent level I don't even make it to the middle ages before being swept of the planet.
I am a Civ player for about 7 years now so not really a newbie. Every level till regent is a cake walk, but with regent it is starting a nightmare.

I keep all the basics in mind:

Building first city; warrior,warrior;baracks;settler;spearman;worker;temple;settler;spearman etc.....

Building second city and have my production sequance about the same as the first one

As long I keep everyone on my side by even giving in on their blackmail I keep on surviving till the first big war gets along. I don't even consider building wonders because they out-produce me every single time.
By the time the first war comes around hordes of knights are infiltrating my precious boundaries and the only thing I can defend myself with are some bow & spearman.

This is getting really frustrating
I tried this level with the: Romans;Chinese;Germans;Americans and Indians.

The best result so far i got with the Indians since the Golden Age is triggered pretty early in the game.

Please advice!!!!

Thanks........

Try playing persian. Immediately research iron working, claim the iron and from there on, immortals! No one can stop you:-)

Not enough settlers. Try to have a settler from your capitol every time it hits size 3. The build sequence depends on the terrain of the capitol, but maybe:
warrior warrior settler (city back down to 1)
temple or barracks while you grow
settler spearman spearman etc..

Remember to expand and grab as much land as you possibly can before you start to concentrate on infrastructure.

Playing Persia is also a good idea. :)

I allways go for warrior:explorer, warrior:defense, setler, Garnary, Ect Playing persia is smart or any other industrious country

Did I mention Regent level? Sorry I meant Monarch ;-).

Regent, Monarch, Emperor, or Deity, the starting method is really the same for all levels.:)

1. Start your first city at 4000BC and tell it to build 2 warriors. If you don't have Potery, research it now and set your science slider to 100%. You will discover Potery within 22 turns or less (22 turns at Deity level, much less at lower level).

2. After building the first 2 warriors, set it to build a great wonder, barracks, temple, or whatever that takes the longest time to build. Note: we just want to store the shields at this point. Once we discover Potery, we will immediately switch it to build a granary. In the mean time, road and irrigate the food bonus tiles within the city. After the granary is built, set it to continuously produce settlers. That's it. We now have a settler production structure in place.:)

3. Find a good spot to build your second city (make sure it get good shield production and not too far from your palace) and immediately build a barracks. After the barracks is done, set this cities to continuously produce military units. That's it. We now have a war production structure in place.:)

4. Depend on your playing style, do what you will with the rest of your cities. You could build more settler production city or more military production city or even great wonders (culture production city).

Note: Step 1 to 3 is very important for any game at any level. It would be best if there there is at least 1 cow or wheat bonus within your first city and it's near the river or lake so that you can irrigate.:) That's it! You are now ready to travel down the road of victory from on on. If our paths happen to cross in PTW, please remember this post and go easy on me, ok.;)

My Strategy for Monarch on Huge World: 16 Civs: English is:

Minimal Research:

1st City: Scout Scout Warrior Settler Granary Settler Settler
2nd City: Warrior Warrior Settler Granary

First Wonder Colossus or failing that the Great LightHouse for Golden Age in Monarchy/Republic

Very occasionally this works!
