Need help finding a mod for my tastes

So i've never played BTS with a mod before but I just finished a domination victory on emperor and was looking for a greater challenge and something more out of the game. From my research on what mods to try, it seems like caveman 2 cosmos was definitely what I was looking for in terms of an expansion to the game the prehistoric era sounded super cool and all kinds of new units and what not. However, once I got it up and running there was just so much that it seemed way too complex and convoluted to try to learn what everything was and how it interacted let alone try to determine any sort of strategy on how to go down the tech tree.

I thought maybe a new dawn might be worth a shot but looking further into it it might seem that if C2C was too overwhelming AND might not be any better in that respect because of it's extremely large tech tree as well albeit seemingly not as much stuff with various new elements to the same degree that C2C is but still.

At this point maybe K-mod might be the way to go because for me honestly features are great but nothing has the ability to create the immersion factor more so than a quality and competent AI, especially at tactics and war strategy, as I am a warmonger and only play for domination victory.

What do you guys think would be the best way to go for me in terms of mods given that new features would be welcome but not to the point where it's so overwhelming it would take a year just to learn the game and figure out a strategy and AI must be top notch which is why I can't Touch civ 6 right now and maybe ever because of the mechanics behind 1UPT.

Thanks in advance

For the most part, judging by what you have written, K-mod would probably suit you well. Essentially, it fixes bugs in the code and soups up the AI to the point where the "I" approaches meaning intelligent rather than idiot. Karadoc did not add any features other than those that he imported from BUG and BULL, which only improve the player interface without changing the game. Depending on how big a jump it was for you to the level that you now play at from the one below it, you will most likely end up dropping down a level or two at first because the AI is going to hand you some real surprises and avoid doing the really dumb things that it is prone to in normal BTS. There are no changes in the tech tree or units.

Would you tend to agree that if caveman 2 cosmos was too overwhelming and convoluted that a new dawn would be similar in that regard or not so much? If so, is there any other mod that would add new features and elements to game play without being way too overwhelming like C2C? Not much into fantasy by the way.

I actually have a new dawn loaded right now and I'm checking it out and it looks more like an expansion pack and the tech tree although more robust is at least more easy to follow and not as convoluted so assuming the AI is competent this may be worth a run.

Would the same sorts of strategies in BTS specifically for a domination victory and how you would go about the tech tree be similar in this as well?

K-Mod makes several minor changes to units, among other things:

There are a bunch of modmods of Kmod, Civ4 Reimagined might be something for you.

Can you provide a link or a suggestion on where to look? I looked at the mod pack list and I don't seem to see anything other than K–mod itself?

Yeah I saw that and it definitely sounds like something up my alley but he said that there was a bunch of modmods of k-mod so I was wondering where the rest were because I've looked through that list but reimagined definitely sounds cool. At this point it's between AND K-mod or reimagined. I guess my only hold up at this point would be this. I started playing AND and I'm really enjoying it, I guess my main question would be which AI is better? BetterAI or K-mod? And if it is K-mod does the AI in AND make better decisions than standard unmodded BTS so as to still make the game enjoyable and challenging because I do really enjoy the content in AND?

Yeah I kind of figured as much, would you say the BetterAI in AND is at least better than unmodded BTS AI in terms of competency and overall challenge?

Well according to the link.
Civ4 Reimagined started as a K-Modmod (which means you get all the benefits from K-Mod such as a much stronger AI,
The answer would obviously be yes, stronger than unmodded BTS.

If you're looking for something with the improved AI of K-Mod but with additional content/mechanics as well (but not to the extreme level of C2C and AND), I humbly suggest checking out my mod History Rewritten (link in my signature). It includes K-Mod and, while it has an entirely new tech tree, new and redesigned civs/buildings/units/etc, I go to great effort to ensure everything is integrated well. Nothing has been added just for the sake of it.

I would recommend the mod History in the Making. It changes a few things such as adding a few more units, civs, and 1 extra unique unit and building per civ, but it still feels like BTS.

It sounds like the K-Mod, Pig Mod or other Bug/Bat Mods work for you as their changes are minor.
When you feel ready to add some realism, such as missing resources like coffee, more leaders per Empire, and Recon units that can attack, I'd recommend Realism Invictus.
It adds some challenge to the base game.
