I've had this problem for a while and it's always eventually fixed itself, but not this time.

Every now and then, my computer would reboot (power burp), be rebooted by me (computer froze) or shut down while Internet Explorer is running. Many times after reboot, when I open IE, my bookmarks (favorites) are all changed, they're bookmarks from a year ago! Why is that? Where are these old bookmarks stored on my computer?

Usually, I can reboot again and again or just keep reopening IE and eventually I get my proper bookmarks back. At least until I have another episode of rebooting with IE open. Problem is, this time I can't get my new bookmarks back. :(

Does anyone know how to fix this and get those stupid old bookmarks off my computer for good? I need to get my new bookmarks.

Thanks in advance.

Search all hard drives for "favorites" to see what folders have that name. Then look inside each to see what iterms are in them to identify your real favorites, and the rogue. Check what paths they have. This may give you a clue to begin troubleshooting the real problem.

Thanks. :goodjob:

I found the rogue folder in my Earthlink browser folder. I deleted it.

Funny thing is...this morning when I log on...before I even read your kind reply...my new bookmarks were back! Just like that. After 30 reboots with no luck they just come back on their own w/o a reboot. I think true Artificial Intelligence was achieved years ago and the computers are just hiding it from us.

Thanks again. :D

When my computer starts to behave like that, I usually backup all files I want to save and reinstall everything:) I'm getting used to it by now:(
