Need help on govs

Hey, I don't have conquest yet (just Gold Edition), and I was wondering what the best goverment for building up good commerce and production AND waging war. I like waging war in ancient and early-to-middle Middle Ages, then building up, and then attack middle-to-end of industrial. Havn't done many wars in modern.

And then, could you post what is a good C3C goverment for building up good commerce and production AND waging war (I might get it this christams)

Monarchy and communism are the war governments. Monarchy is not too terribly bad since you should be increasing your land and resources that you can trade off for techs.

Republic and democarcy are your builder governments. These provide the most trade which can be used to rush improvments or units.

I will typically go monarchy -> demo -> commy. OR Republic. It depends on if you are religious.l

For the type of wars your talking about - short - and infrequent, Republic is just fine. Just remember that to end that war in a reasonable amount of time.

Am curious since I usually pick a religious civ. Should I avoid a comm. gov. then or a republic. And why??

I think kb2tvl was referring to the choice between Democracy & Republic. If you're religious, Democracy is "safer" because if you have to abandon it (or it collapses ), your turnover time to the next gov't is shorter.

But don't get too far ahead of yourself. Until we see a patch to fix corruption and find out just how good the Secret Police HQ is, no one can really say whether or not Communism will become any better than Monarchy (which, for you PtWers, it's not).

And don't forget Fascism!

But as of now, Republic and Monarchy seem to be heading towards being the most "well-rounded" governments, with the former leaning towards the more pacific leader.

The best overall government for both war and building is Republic. War Wariness is verey manageable, just use the luxury slider and you'll be fine. Democracy is the next pick, but beware the war wariness in this government is more significant than Republic.
