Need new ISP

Ok my father changed his mind last night about staying with AOL, now he wants to get rid of it after it stopped working (I have no clue why, no clue at all ) for 6 hours and got very little help from tech support. Anyways could someone direct me to a cheap but good high speed ISP? And what is DSL? I have heard it uses the phone line but is different then dialup. And does it have great DL speeds?(anything is better then the 6.0k A second I get now) NO DIAL UP! I am trying to get a new ISP FAST before my father changes his mind.

Sympatico DSL is rather good, if you're looking at that, otherwise Roger's Cable is good too....

Download Speeds for DSL can go up towards 200kb/sec or more depending on your area and the server, chances are it will be around 80-100kb/sec on a good server, it does depend on your area though....

Yes, xDSL does run via your current copper telephone line, however; they use a diffrent modulation scheme to pack data onto that wire, allowing the data to travel more quickly.

You will defiitely notice a large increase from your dial-up.

I realizxe you live in maine, and I am not sure if they sell it down there, yet, but it is slow, and crappy. DO NOT GET IT, YOU WILL REGRET IT AND WHINE ABOUT IT!!!

Can't say I have heard of it. Through since my state is close to the border I can assume that it is sold in the towns closer to the border then mine is. Lucky me. And if you want slow and crappy try aol. Damn thing. There is a local DSL company that charges 29.95 a month for DSL. Might go with them if I can't get a cheaper price.
