If anyone can reccommend one (or more) good program(s) that block spyware and adaware and don't allow it to install itself, I would very much appreciate it. Also, if anyone knows of any sites with good comparisons of such programs, that would be good as well. The programs don't have to be free, but do have to be available for purhcase off the net.

Thank you both, but what I need is not removal tools (I have those already) but a program that will make sure the stuff doesn't get into the system in the first place.
If such a tool was available on PC Pitstop I must have missed it, can you point it out please?

I know S&D. Is it really the best tool possibly available for blocking the installation of Spyware/Adware? As I said, it doesn't have to be free.

S&D does seem to be a sensible choice.
Even when compared with paid alternatives? Wow, pretty impresive.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard

once again in the Index link under spyware preventers.

I'll be honest, I don't know of any software that you would pay for that beats S&D or AdAware at what they do. Just use those two in conjunction and you should be fine.

I know S&D blocks some things, but as far as I know only the paid version of AdAware blocks stuff. Other than that they both just remove the stuff after the fact.

Yes the paid version does come with a blocker but for the two weeks I used it I found it had to be open in order to work, closing it shut it down. There was no silent run mode. Course that was with AdAware 6 so things might have changed.
