OK, I'm doing yet another poll, this time regarding the setting. We already have a shroud map with a cradle in LINES2, and I think it's a great idea. Still, I think it would be wise to opt for originality, so I wanted to do a shroud map without a cradle instead. What with players already in Bronze Age, it would be more realistic if they'd start contacting more far-flung civilizations. This also brings me to the topic of random starting locations, since picking a place is kind of hard with shroud and no cradle. Logically, no cradle will also mean random starting locations, although you can voice your preferences (like island, coastal or inland)

With all these thoughts in mind, I still want to run a NES that is in line with you, the players' wishes. The options are rather basic, and if you have any other suggestions, simply write it down and post it in the thread.

Sure. Same reason and vote. Why not? (rhetorical question NOT directed at NK)

I do recall someone doing exactly that. Shroud and no cradle, I mean. Not sure how it turned out... was it NK?

The real question is...What's a cradle?

A cradle (of civilization) is basically a common starting location for all players. After the players have expanded and fought a bit over the lands, the scope grows larger and allows for fringe civilizations and larger nations. A good example in LINES2.

stNNESIX was a shroud random.

LINESII is a shrouded cradle.

No shroud with a cradle defeats the point of a cradle.

Random, well, everyone knows that one.

Do no shroud cradle, and have everyone put what type of climate they want to be in...

Or, this one might not be as fun, players sign up, you give them a climate, THEN they make their civilization

The thing with the thing on the thing.

Care to elaborate on that?

It's like that game on MadTV, Vague. It was pretty funny in Seasons 1 and 2...

Cradles are a good thing, and a shroud is interesting. However, they should be fairly large - real-world cradles for an NES I would consider to be the entire Mediterranean, Mesopotamia and into Persia, the Nile valley and all of India and China as well as southern South-east Asia, Korea and Japan.

That is kind of the point. I don't use World map. I think it's boring (truly, I never play NESes on world maps for this reason.) and it's too large. The map I'm working on now is very much smaller.
