Royal Inspection of the Warsaw Barracks

The King walked along the lines of prancing soldiers inspecting them carefully. His eyes wandered from face to face. These were men in their best years. They looked fit and stood firm. Their weapons shouldered, their view straight forwards. Yes, these men would do well if their homeland would be in danger. But the soldiers of the enemy would too be well trained soldiers, well armed and motivated. Polands soldiers needed to be better! Polands soldiers should be the best!

"Soldiers of the Kingdom of Poland! You are fine men! But you are also few men! Other, bigger nations have armys four times bigger. Therefore I expect from you, that you run four times faster, shoot four times better and that you are four times stronger!"

He saluted the soldiers and disappeared with the General inside the Barracks to overwork the trainings plan.

Prinz Friedrich Bonaparte adjusted the collar of his frock coat in the mirror of his bedchamber in the Wilhelmshohe Palace. Outside his window, Friedrich could hear the voices of the crowd that had assembled in the Wilhelmshohel Garden, awaiting his address. Straightening his saber at his side and brushing the dust off his lapels, the Prince walked calmly and resolutely to the French doors leading to the balcony, opened them, and stepped briskly into the warmth of the Hessian sunsine. Looking out over the masses assembled in the Garden, Friedrich felt a tinge of pride. These were his people. His Germans. His blood was as much that of Karl von Hesse as it was that of Napoleon the Great. The Prince surveyed the assembled crowd once more before, smiling, he began to speak.

"Citizens! Countrymen! Germans! I stand before you today to report on the state of our Confederation. Countrymen, I have traveled through every corner of this state. I have inspected the troops in Frankfurt and prayed in the cathedral of Dresden. I've toured Hanover and drunken the fine brew of Bavaria. My citizens, I have walked and breathed every mile of this country; and so they ask me to stand here and declare the state of our Confederation. Well I have seen the state of the Confederation, and it is strong."

The Prince pauses and looks over the crowd, waiting for the applause and cheering to cease.

"Countrymen, our state stands in a unique position. For centuries, Germany has straddled East and West, standing at the turning point of the European continent. Now, too, do we Germans stand at the turning point of history, straddling the dividing line between two great and terrible powers. Never before -- not in the time of Alexander, nor in the time of Caesar, nor even in the time of Napoleon -- has the world been at such ill-ease. Never before have two powers so mighty and so ferocious stood poised to strike at each other's throats in the way the empires of France and Russia today stand. And between them stands the Confederation of the Rhine. But fear not, good citizens; for we are Germans, and if war comes, we shall fight, and endure, as our race has endured for a millenium."

Another pause for applause.

"They call this land the Confederation of the Rhine. But what is this? They call our country Rhine, and yet our capital stands on the glistening banks of the Fulda. They call our people Rhinelanders, and yet in this very crowd today there are Hessians, and Hanoverians, and Bavarians, and Saxons. Friends, I dare say the words which I am sure have been on all our minds and yet never on our tongues, since the day the Confederation was established. We are Germans, and this land is Germany! No man, however great his army, can ever take that from us!"

The Prince looks over the crowd regally as the assembled masses cheer wildly. His eyes flashing with fire, Friedrich draws his saber from his hip and, cutting through the air as though he cut quick the very sky, brandished it above him.

"We are the crossroads of history. Whatever adversity may come, I have faith that this nation will overcome and conquer. We hold in our hands the power to make our own fate. Let us choose a new course, the course of honor and power. Let us forge a new destiny for the German nation!"

A unit of the Royal Guard discharged its rifles into the air in a salute, as the Royal Brass Band struck up the national anthem. The crowd continued to cheer, waving flags and singing in patriotic euphoria. Prince Friedrich saluted the crowd before turning and entering the chamber adjacent to the balcony. Closing the French doors behind him, Friedrich could still hear the shouts and cheers of his people.

Theodore Roosevelt, a True Southern President

Troosevelt.gif

By a margin of 60 to 40%, Senator Theodore Roosevelt of Cuba was elected as the newest President of the Confederate States of America. This is quite a win, seeing as most Confederates didnt even know who he was 2 months ago. But once they learned his background, there was little the opposition candidate could do to stop the PR machine of Roosevelt's campaign.

But how much of it is true? How did Roosevelt rise to power to become what he is billed now as "A true Southern President"?

Ironically enough, the true Southern President was born in New York City in 1858. A rambunctious and rowdy child, TR often found himself in trouble. Still, he made good school grades and eventually landed a scholarship to Havard. He did very well in science, philosophy, and law courses, which promptly lead to him entering in Columbia Law school in 1880. He found it boring, and while he was considered a great potential lawyer, he couldnt stomach the thought of a career as a corporate attorney.

Jump forward 1890. TR has made a name for himself, but in the wrong way. Thinking he could fix his boredom, TR joined the US military in 1882. Of course, when he discovered his commanding officer had laundered hundreds of thousands of dollars, TR was framed for the laundering himself. Ofcourse, they didnt have enough evidence to convict him, but it did leave an indellible mark on his record. Frustrated with the unfairness, TR left the US military in 1886, and asked to join a post in the Confederate military.

The post he got was in the state of Cuba, his mission was to help in rooting out the Cuban resistance movements. Forming a group of cavalry men, titled the "Roughriders", TR made a name for himself in Cuba, as he regularly outsmarted and outmatched the Cuban Revolutionaries. Impressed, the CSA government in New Orleans promoted him to General of Cuba.

But TR was bored again, and in 1895, ran for a position in the CSA Senate. Initially his background as a Northerner hurt Roosevelt, but several months into the race, his past melted away in the minds of voters, as they saw a man who was bold and not afraid to battle for something he believes in...exactly what a senator should be. In a landslide victory, TR won over the incumbent...something that rarely happens in the CSA as far as the senate goes.

And as can be guessed, he served well, turning Cuba into one of the more prosperous CSA states with several bills, including the Maintained Militia Bill, and the Industries Bill. In 1903, with the urging of several other Senators within his Republican Party, TR threw his hat in the ring for President of the CSA...and the rest is history.
