Theodore Roosevelt, a True Southern President
By a margin of 60 to 40%, Senator Theodore Roosevelt of Cuba was elected as the newest President of the Confederate States of America. This is quite a win, seeing as most Confederates didnt even know who he was 2 months ago. But once they learned his background, there was little the opposition candidate could do to stop the PR machine of Roosevelt's campaign.
But how much of it is true? How did Roosevelt rise to power to become what he is billed now as "A true Southern President"?
Ironically enough, the true Southern President was born in New York City in 1858. A rambunctious and rowdy child, TR often found himself in trouble. Still, he made good school grades and eventually landed a scholarship to Havard. He did very well in science, philosophy, and law courses, which promptly lead to him entering in Columbia Law school in 1880. He found it boring, and while he was considered a great potential lawyer, he couldnt stomach the thought of a career as a corporate attorney.
Jump forward 1890. TR has made a name for himself, but in the wrong way. Thinking he could fix his boredom, TR joined the US military in 1882. Of course, when he discovered his commanding officer had laundered hundreds of thousands of dollars, TR was framed for the laundering himself. Ofcourse, they didnt have enough evidence to convict him, but it did leave an indellible mark on his record. Frustrated with the unfairness, TR left the US military in 1886, and asked to join a post in the Confederate military.
The post he got was in the state of Cuba, his mission was to help in rooting out the Cuban resistance movements. Forming a group of cavalry men, titled the "Roughriders", TR made a name for himself in Cuba, as he regularly outsmarted and outmatched the Cuban Revolutionaries. Impressed, the CSA government in New Orleans promoted him to General of Cuba.
But TR was bored again, and in 1895, ran for a position in the CSA Senate. Initially his background as a Northerner hurt Roosevelt, but several months into the race, his past melted away in the minds of voters, as they saw a man who was bold and not afraid to battle for something he believes in...exactly what a senator should be. In a landslide victory, TR won over the incumbent...something that rarely happens in the CSA as far as the senate goes.
And as can be guessed, he served well, turning Cuba into one of the more prosperous CSA states with several bills, including the Maintained Militia Bill, and the Industries Bill. In 1903, with the urging of several other Senators within his Republican Party, TR threw his hat in the ring for President of the CSA...and the rest is history.
