The game's supposed to come out in the following months. Basically it's a game that will look somejow to baldur's gate (since it's the same developper). So we can expect many character class, and the multiplayer will probably be wonderful. Beautiful graphic will complete the thing. Take a look on their site if it interests you :

Some of the features :

-Will allow up to 64 people in the same game in multiplayer
-Many many character class
-Wonderful graphics

I'm awaiting this game almost the same as I was waiting for Civ3. Hope you will enjoy their site. :D

How's it going Unknown Soldier.
Here are some links that contain discussion on this forum about Neverwinter nights:

I was thinking of starting this thread up also but I am glad someone else did so people don't just think I love to open new threads. ;)

I can't wait for the damn game. I plan to run a server and have a few friends that will deffinately play one of them being a paper and pencil 3e D&D DM (I also have DMed but like playing better, who knows, NWN might make me love DMing).
The designers are saying Winter 2001 is release date with the winter extending to the end of March 2002.

I plan to run a server

How about giving me some of your money for a decend Internet connection so I can run one too ;)

Im also looking forward to playing this game, but i am still pissed off at Bioware for abandoning the awesome infinity engine!
What was this engine used in or supposed to have been used in?

The Infinity Engine was first used in Baldur's Gate (1998) and Icewind Dale (2000), and a much better and nicer looking version was used in Baldur's Gate II (2000) and Throne of Bhaal (2001), it was quite easy to use, and it looked really cool! When i saw the Screenshots from NWN and read that Bioware will abandon the Infinity engine i got quite mad!

lol?

That crappy old BG Engine would have drawn NWN back into the abyss where Ultima Online once came from. The NWN Engine is simply awesome! Just d/l the E3 2000 movie (280 MB) and watch it! (not the 2001 because it's recorded off a screen with a cheap cam and quite bad quality).

It does'nt all hang on the graphics,
Sure, that's why you started complaining about the NWN engine...

Im complaining because the graphics are way too complex to possibly run on my computer (PII 333Mhz), and that those flashy graphics are'nt very appealing to me.
If you want to try out REAL RPG's, check out some on this site:
www.spiderwebsoftware.com

If I want to play a REAL RPG I take out my character sheet and play D&D with my friends.

And with NWN's ability to have DM control monsters & NPCs in realtime anytime during the game and with the included editor NWN is the closest you get to real RPG feeling on a PC.

This is certainly true. Even though I have enjoyed many computer RPG's, in terms of roleplaying they don't hold a candle to the real thing. Even the great ones like BGII and Fallout II aren't really roleplaying.

Perhaps NWN will be different with DM control, but even then, I suspect that there will be much that the system lacks. I probably still won't be able to fly or teleport. I also won't be able to use my magic missle to trigger a rockslide. And one of these days I'd like to be able to own a horse and crush some blighter's skull with my horseman's mace.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to it, but I figure that we are still a long way away from true computer role-playing. Hats off though to those who keep advancing the art. We've come a long way from Bard's Tale.:D

For me the only true RPGs (other than Pen & Paper) are Fallout 2 followed by Fallout 1. Soon NWN will take place 1 ;)

Baldurs Gate is more an Action Adventure than an RPG for me. They simply raped and drowned the rules till they had a Diablo with an AD&D stamp on it.

I've changed my mind about the NWN graphics, i looked and the minimum reqs will be PII 300 (yay), and DaEezT, have you ever even played Baldur's Gate? Because, i started playing the first one a few summers ago, and i got hooked directly, and that thing you said about 'raping and drowning' the Dee-a-blo rules is just bull. Diablo is NOTHING like BG, truth is, i think its kinda boring too, WAY too much hack n' slash:rolleyes: .

I have to respectfully disagree with that. I found there to be a much greater depth of story and character development with BG than with Diablo. Diable was just a dungeon hack. A good one to be sure, but no more than that. The story and your ability to affect it puts BG ahead in my book.

I do agree that Fallout had more options for character development and ways to solve problems, and thus as a RPG game comes closer to being a true role-playing game, but it still has a long way to go to get there.

I would like to discuss another of the great features that will be included with this game. The editor.

Bioware is going to put an editor with the game, so you will be able to create your own Maps, Npc, Quest and even create new Objects. I think it's a great idea, since it will add a lot of replayability to the game, allowing to do new things, get new objects/quest maybe each week. That will be great, and added to the possibility of playing 64  (I'm really struck by the possibility of this number of player in a single game)

I just got baldur's gate today from a friend (I'm a real newbie at RPG) so I think I'll be able to survive for a week or two... Maybe... *sigh*

I would be extremely suprised if they didn't include an editor. I just hope it is going to be powerful but at the same time easy to use. Could you imagine the game being release without and editor. There goes the whole game basically b/c it has been hyped up as hugely expandable and the "DM" spot has been big hype also. I just hope we don't get dissapointed. (*crosses fingers*)

I personally didn't like BG, found the combat too difficult. Might have been b/c I played a Mage and kept getting killed....

And to the magic missle.....they don't hit inanimate things (at least they didn't in 2e, I can't memeber about 3e).

Also, a recent RPG I like is Wizardry 8. You probably don't want to look at it Miko as a 300MHz PC shouldn't even dream of such a thing. ;)

I finished BG 1 and played BG2, but I sold it after playing about half to 2/3 of it because it was so damn boring.
I already said it all in another thread so I just say one fact: Fallout 2 has 6 combat and 12 (= twice as many) non combat skills and also perks like empathy which only help you while talking with ppl and other perks (explorer, kamasutra master etc) that don't even have the slightest connection to combat while in BG you can't even use charm to get information out of ppl.

Perhaps true, but I remember somewhere reading of this as a good example of using spells creatively. It might have been in a first edition book, or even in regular D&D (From way back in the day).

My point is simply that computer RPGs are still a long way from being able to replace pen and paper. Once again though, I do enjoy them.
