The preview talks about all the major topics of change in the game. It may not be as great as the collection of civ information we have here in the sticky, but it is definitely a good read none-the-less. Enjoy :)

Yes, a good read. A six source summary. CFC is one of the sources.

Good summary of the available info that has been released so far. It's long but if you want all the information in one go, you should read this.

It was a good read but I have one question. Why isn't Inca on the list of confirmed civs. people on these forums have talked about them being in the game and I'm sort of confused.

The fact that Civ V is being paired with D3 and SC2 on amazon is pretty damn cool :p

btw, the biggest discussion in the reddit post was people concerned with the DRM. I think that Civ V will not have a DRM that requires internet connection, if they even have one at all. Civ fans are very devoted to supporting their beloved Firaxis and i'm sure Civ has one of the best popularity to pirated ratio out there.

    Lua...

I have no idea what that means. It's obviously the programming language, but does that mean XML is out? Or is just replacing Python or SDK...

Could someone please explain the significance to a layman? :D

Lua is a scripting language, used in WoW and a bunch of other games. SDK & XML are still in. Lau is replacing Python.

ciV is fine for me and many others. If you say D3 or SC2 it may mean something else. ciV is obvious.

Whatever the case, I wonder if Diablo 3 will come out before ciV?

    Off topic again:
    Spoiler :
It's only obvious when we're in the Civ5 forum and the context makes it clear. Anywhere else, without adequate context, I think it would confuse the majority of people reading it. Apart from a handful of CFC members, where else can you see the abbreviation ciV being used?

If I were to go into the many reasons it shouldn't be used I'd probably need to start a separate thread. That said, one of the problems is that it's going to be a very bad term for searches because they are usually not case sensitive. ciV will return hits for every civ game. "civ 5" or "civ5" is going to be more reliable at least in that sense.

At the moment, I feel like what TMIT must have felt like when he tried to eliminate the usage of the term SE or Specialist Economy. Even though there are practical reasons for trying to end the usage of ciV, if it takes off in usage by many posters it will become an exercise in frustrating futility.

I hear you man! I think it matters very little if one writes out Civ V or ciV so for clarity sake I think Civ 5 should be the standard as it is as clear as anything and still very short.

ciV is what is used by people who smile every single time they type it because they not only managed to abbreviate an abbreviation, but they also managed to work in the roman numericals while cleverly distingiushing between the name and the number by the use of capitals... Oh, the joy of saving yourself an extra keystroke ot two must be nothing short of extatic! Not only does is set oneself apart from the majority of the people on the internet who actually have to type in another space and then a 5 where one might save oneself the trouble by simply holding shift, but now one can even look smart amongst civfanatics by simply hopping on some bandwagon that left the station years ago. How original and clever it must seem!

    Fun!

This sucks. Lua is nice enough, but doesn't come close to the power of Python, and, as far as I know, doesn't do multiprocessing like the newer versions of Python. Unless both Lua and Python are supported, this is a step back.

    ciV

Looks good to me and to a majority of people around here it seems. It's not about being clever or saving a keystroke. I could care less about those things, let alone the dripping sarcasm from the poster two posts up. To each his/her own. :)

Reasonable arguments. However, I only use ciV on here. People know what it means and typically only OCD people seem to have a real problem with it. Not a big deal really.
