New Beta Version - January 14th (1-14)

    Hey all,

    New beta inbound. Notes:

        General
            Increased unit/building cost by around 30-40% at base
        Trade Routes
            TR distance scaling now uses the furthest potential candidate as your 100% for the purpose of scaling
            TR distance scaling now caps at 50% reduction
            TR resource diversity reworked a bit - now a +/- modifier based on relative diversity between targets
                If origin city is more resource diverse than target city, target gold value is worth more. If origin is less resource diverse than target, target value is worth less.
                    i.e. Merchants can load up with more goods from diverse cities to send to cities that have less stuff to trade (and need more stuff!)
                Diversity - num of improved resources around city
                    Luxuries and Strategics each count for '1' (even if multiple strategics on a tile)
                    If a resource around the city is a monopoly owned by the city owner, it counts double
                    If you have 4 resource around a city, and they have 3, you get +25% diversity bonus for gold value of route
                    Reversed, you get -25% gold.
                    Carthage/EIC bonus (see below) modify this final value (i.e. +25% is doubled by Dido to 50%, and -25% is halved to 13%).
                Caps at -50% and +100%
            Base internal yield rate now +6 (was +5)
            Increased based length of land TR to 10 (was 8)
                Fixed a bug that was doubling these values as well, so TRs should feel tighter.
        Buildings
            Cathedral - boost Quarries by +1g locally
            Castles - boost Quarries by +1p locally
            Steam Mill - now boosts Manufactories by +4p - drops specialist stuff
        Units
            Spearman CS now 11; Immortal/Pictish Warrior now 13; Hoplite now 14
            Pikeman now 17; Landsknecht now 20
            Foreign Legion now 52
            Mercenary now 60
        Beliefs
            Cooperation - now +5 per birth (was +6)
            Mastery - specialists now also make +1 GAP
        
    Not savegame compatible.

    I just won a CV on King with Poland going tradition/Artistry/Industry/Freedom and I must say I hope you don't bump building cost too much because it actually felt good to me. I was steamrolling pretty well and was actually 2nd in score, but the timing with everything (standard speed) just felt right. Considering I took Industry (btw I also enjoyed Artistry buff) and had a good lead in policies and eventually techs, I was always on the brink of having built everything to the point of nothing left to build except diplomats and the occasional unit as my supply fluctuated. May sound like a problem, but that's exactly what I believe the pace would be considering how great I was set up with jungle start/Mongol vassal/industry netting me between 500-1000 GPT late game. I was able to actually spend all my gold on infrastructure and keep all my cities thriving. With the Freedom specialist happiness and food policies I topped out at 130 happiness and was able to keep up my army to the point where nobody could really even step in for DoW before I won. AI was helpless, but again it just felt right especially since King isn't too difficult. It's only one game, but the gold investment on buildings seemed to push they pace early game without it actually leading to runaways and me with fusiliers in year 1400...

    I understand maybe a slight increase for building cost, but hopefully not too much. Just my input, although I only play standard speed myself so I'll reserve judgement and see what it's like on new version if I don't go Industry.

    The diversity system looks very interesting, eager to see it in practice.

    Spearman...I still don't understand why this was change. There was no call for an increase to the spear. The whole make spear/pike stronger thread came down to "spear good, pike needs work".

    The discussion centered on pikemen without coming to a consensus on the spearman, but some people do feel the need to buff the spearman. I tend to agree; spearmen currently feel very weak compared to contemporary units.

    no other mods installed, "vanilla" settings when configuring the game after the vp installation. it worked like a charm with the most recent versions though :(

    Damn, great work. I like the quarry bonuses, those kind of small extras are a lot of fun for some reason.

    Is Improved City View mod still necessary or can I remove it?

    Necessary? What do you mean? No other mod is necessary to play VP besides VP components.

    Bad choice of words on my part. Are the tweaks that you included sufficient enough that I wouldn't need "improved city view" anymore to enjoy same/similar benefits? I think I remember reading in another thread about your plan to merge some of it.

    He may think that you added the interface of Improved City View to basic VP. Which would be great, by the way.

    I have just added "Gold Button" and "Invested" flag. The right side is unchanged.
    I might create a poll to find out about Improved CityView. UI is too important to force people to use a version they don't like, imho.
    I actually have also tweaked ICV a bit, to be in sync with VP. Plus it has a better GreatPerson section. You can try it out. I am going also to optimize the building list (but not into an icons' list, which I find completely useless - I want to see the yields of buildings).

    Purchase cost only or also the hammer cost? If hammer cost and purchase cost are both risen by this value, it might be too much.
    I finished a solid game and the pace in early and mid game feeled good, only had late game too much money.
    Maybe spread the increase in early by 10%, mid by 20% and late game by 30%? This would suit my obvservation.
    But I'am open to test it.
    This is much more than a minor buff. Not as strong as with the +2 to specialists, but can give a lot of GAP, even more than the scaler of the artistry tree. Didnt you think this is maybe a bit too strong, especially for brazil?

    Cannot get it to work. There's a lot of things missing, no buildings are shown, and many other issues.

    I misread this as "Legionary now 52" and I just sort of accepted that Rome needed to be a god for a patch.

    I don’t consider that lack of consensus strong enough to make the change. Spears get used, it’s pikes that aren’t used much st all.
