AFAIK the AI's willingness to negotiate peace depends on multiple factors, including but not limited to the warscore.

Yeah, this is the longest war I've fought since wars were shortened. I have a 54 score now, and their unhappiness is finally under 20 (-25). He agreed to talk, but when I say what he wants, he just said, "I must refuse." Luckily, I've managed to handle my own unhappiness and supply cap (a breakthrough!).

Well unfortunately I wasn't able to replicate my happiness issues with a new spain game....because I streamrolled everyone this time. Hehe, its funny that we get hung up on imbalances like landing on a forest for example....but never think about the fact that if you have 6 horses near you, and your opponent does not...you will roll them pretty hard.

I raised this point, but...

There was a bug if he was sanctioned. Is fixed in hotfix.

So obvious solution to that is strategic balance :)

So in this game I did just that. Basically dominated my neighbors, got to the top of the heap, and then once conquistadors came online it was a done deal.

As an interesting note, I got the production bonus belief this game. I took a snapshot at one point, and noticed that the belief increased my production by 10-15%. That is a pretty darn good bonus, just interesting to note.

I am going to go to the latest version and try the same settings again. I'm hoping to showcase the happiness spiral and get it in the logs.

This is why i always play Strategic Balance, try it. On paper it seems a bit artificial, but leads to a more interesting game. And yeah, on Deity if your neighbour have Horses and you don't - you're dead

We did think about it. That's where the buff to spearmen and pikemen came from. They're more capable of defending against strategics, if not going on the offense.

That said it can still make a big difference, so I play with strategic balance.

Figured. Essentially my test for the AIs worked because they don’t use the same routine as with a human. Assumed they did. Bad me.

I chose to make peace several turns later. I was at 64. The Vikings agreed, but gave me nothing. I accepted. They were predictably "friendly," but I had no option to trade even for embassies. Then Germany DoW'd me, and my unhappiness went from -10 to -66, despite getting no luxuries from them. (I'm moving on to the new version!)

Do you have the player happiness log? I know is keen to see that whenever we see the happiness spirals
