Hi everyone,

Recently I have updated my mod MMod, which is a modmod of KMod, found here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=482015

Obviously, MMod = KMod + BAT + Varietas Delectas (found here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=237192 ) + GEM Map (optional) + MasteryVictory (optional)

#2: This is the most recent 'unofficial' update for MMod: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B6VuHphw5zHzc0w1bC1UOHB3NU0&export=download in which I attempted to add the civs and leaders from Civ Gold, found here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7742

Here is the issue I am having. When following the directions for adding a civ on this forum, it calls to use artstyles from the civ you are downloading (in this case from Civ Gold). However, Varietas Delectat (which MMod uses) has its own Global Types such as:

Civ Gold does not use these artstyles, which cause the game to eventually crash.

How can I change the new civs / leaders to have the correct artstyles that are in the MMod created with the Varietas Delectat artstyles?

I'm not very good at this (obviously), and could really use some help...

Please let me know if what I'm saying does not make sense.

Have you added the GlobalTypes, and the new art styles that are in XML/Civilizations/Civ4UnitArtStyleTypeInfos.xml? That is the file that specifies art styles for civilizations. Check out the file in BTS if you do not have one in your mod.

Yes, MMod (the working version) has the GlobalTypes from Varietas Delectat within it. The 'original' MMod is working and has worked perfectly for 2+ years. It is the new version in which I attempted to add leaders that I have messed it up. I think I bit off more than I could chew trying to merge my mod with Civ Gold because Civ Gold does not have the same GlobalTypes as MMod uses.

I think what I am going to do now is to just simply explain what I'm doing, and maybe someone can guide me to the best way of doing this:

These mods have been merged together to form MMod (completed in December 2012) and has been stable and perfect ever since.

Recently I tried to merge civs/leaders from Civ Gold. However, I have decided this is likely not optimal bc Varietas Delectat and Civ Gold use different GlobalTypes.

What I would like to do, instead, is explain what I am trying to do:

I am simply trying to add new civs and leaders, essentially based on the current ones that are in MMod (same as the ones in vanilla Civ).

For example, I would like to take, say:
America and create a new derivative civ called: United States (keeping America, while also adding United States)
Roosevelt and create a new derivative leader named: John F Kennedy (keeping Roosevelt, while also adding John F Kennedy)
I don't care to add any new units or anything like that.
For the art for the leaderhead, I would just like to take a static image from the internet, such as: http://www.seekingenlightenment.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/president-kennedy.jpg and convert to .dds and have this be the art for the leaderhead.

The end goal will be to create several new leaders / civs and then build scenarios using MMod's GEM map for the entire community to use.

The problem is...the more I read on the modding tutorials, the more lost I get.

This doesn't seem like it should be too hard. Can someone give me some direction? Once I create just one....I should be able to create tons ...

If what I have said does not make sense, please let me know and I will further attempt to clarify... I'm desperately seeking advice : /
 
You didn't comment on the art style XML. You need Civ Gold's art styles to run their new content. Make sure you merge Civ4UnitArtStyleTypeInfos.xml

IMHO, you gave up on GlobalTypes too quickly, creating static leaderheads from scratch is probably even more work than merging Civ Gold correctly.
 
It is better for my mod to create static leaderheads from scratch if someone can help me learn to do it properly. The reason it is better is because I plan on making several scenarios based on the GEM map while also having KMod's AI along with Sevo's Mastery Victory. The reason the mod was built was for this scenario construction. I was combining Civ Gold only because it seemed like a fast and easy way to partially accomplish what I want to do. However, adding the leaders from scratch is more ideal in this case. I'm willing to put in a lot of work if someone can walk me thru the steps... I just need to be walked thru once so I have a blueprint to follow for the rest...

The issue I'm having with your comment seems to be the same one I'm having with all the other tutorials. You reference folders which don't seem to exist in my mod...which I don't understand?...

For example, can you please download my mod and then check the directories to tell me where, specifically, I need to go to in order to follow your steps, please?

If your mod does not have the corresponding Assets/XML/XXX folder, it means K-mod did not modify those files, thus they are still using the default BTS files. Thus, all you need to do is go to the above BTS folders, copy the respective XML files over to the corresponding locations in your mod.

So CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml will go into Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods/M-Mod/Assets/XML/Civilizations folder. If the folder does not exist in your mod, just create it and place the file there.

Obviously, creating 48 new civs/leaders is ambitious; however, MMod has been a 3 year project which currently is extremely stable. And I plan on spending as much time as necessary in order to do this correctly.

At this time, I'd like to use an example of what I'm planning on doing and having any pitfalls/errors pointed out by those who are much better at this than I am (but, hopefully I will become an expert once I've added these new civs/leaders).

For this practice, I will use a simple example of what I am wanting to accomplish:

Vanilla Civ has the "American Empire" with leaders: Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt. I would like to essentially 'copy' this civ and create a new derivative called: "USA" with the leader also called "Franklin Roosevelt"

Notice that I did not change the civilopedia. I assume that, since this leads to FRANKLIN_ROOSEVELT, that this should be fine. Also notice that I did not change the DiploMusicPeaceEra, I also assume this can be left as is since it will just refer to the original leaderhead that was copied?

I am also not sure what all of this does. For example, what is the button? What is the NIF? What is the KFM? What is the NoShaderNIF? BackgroundKFM? Essentially, I am not looking to create a 'mesh leaderhead.' I want to, instead, simply use a static picture for my leaderhead art. For example, I'd like to use this picture as my leader's picture: http://www.eventresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/US-Flag1.jpg .

I already have a BMP to DDS converter. So, I would take the picture from that link, convert it from JPG to BMP, re-size it to the correct proportions, and then convert the BMP to DDS. It is this picture that I want to use as my LeaderHead picture. How does this fit into the: Button, NIF, KFM, NoShaderNIF, BackgroundKFM?

STEP #5:
Add text to text folders (Assets/XML/Text)
-Self explanatory

STEP #6:
Place artwork in where it is defined (Button + Portrait)
-To do this, I likely need to understand Step #4 above better.
