New developer livestream coming Oct 8: Tecumseh featuring Shawnee Special Guests!

Given Shawnee's abilities, I'm wondering if this will be our first look at religion...

Will be unable to watch it live :(

Very pleased to see Tecumseh in the game. A lot of Canadian history-buffs have a great fondness for Tecumseh thanks to the role he played in the War of 1812. Tragically, while Canadians reaped the benefits of his leadership, he, the Shawnee and the rest of confederacy fared much, much worse during the war. Canada preserved its independence, which it might well not have done without Tecumseh's support, while Tecumseh's own people lost theirs (and Tecumseh himself his life). It would have been nice if subsequent Canadian history at least demonstrated a basic understanding and gratitude towards the confederacy peoples for their help in keeping us free, but sadly even that was not to be. Raising his profile like this at least helps to keep both his memory alive and the memory of this important era in North American history alive.

There is the lake/nature backround in the livestream announcement that is also behind Tecumseh.

where those leader backrounds are used in the game? Is it when you first meet a leader?

(Sorry if this sounds confusing English is not my first language)

It’s a bit confusing at first glance, but any English speaker will be able to understand what you’re asking. There’s a million ways to say or ask something in English.

One way, using your words, would be:

In the livestream announcement there is a lake/nature background behind Tecumseh. Are those leader backgrounds used in the game? (Is that background used in the game?) Is it when you first meet a leader.

The background appears during Civ/Leader selection and on loading; this particular one is for the Shawnee!

@FXS_Sar Can you say how many leaders and civs (in each age) will be included in the standard edition?
Base Civ IV, V, and Civ VI had 18 civs each, not counting bonuses. That sets an expectation of 18 leaders and 54 civs (18x3) for Civ VII. I don't see anything in the description of the standard edition to confirm or adjust that.

The backgrounds we've seen are really beautiful. I hope someone can mod them into the diplomacy screen after release. :)

and we're live

The backgrounds seem to be tied to civilizations, not leaders. In the gameplay showcase, Benjamin Franklin appears to have the Greek civilization's background.

Andrew explaining why they chose Tecumseh and the Shawnee.

Shawnee chief said "This isn't about Xcom, is it? on the phone.

Four years of of production for the Civ, that shows they consulted right at the beginning of the process, which is fantastic.

Back in Civ5, they were excited that a Native American Civ starting with S was getting added, hoping it was the Shawnee, but it turned out to be the Shoshone.

I remember people speculated on the Shawnee appearing in Civ5 based on a new Barbarian axe-man unit.

It's easier to get along when the chief is a fellow gamer, as they said. Best case scenario.
