New Era Settler Mod - Restricts Settlers to each new era or extreme cost.

If you would like to slow the expansion of civilizations by limiting the production of Settlers, then this is the mod for you!
This mod restricts the expansion of civilizations in early game. A free Settler is granted each time the player enters a new era. Alternatively, producing a Settler requires 10 population and 1000 production, and reduces 5 population once completed. Captured Settlers will become Builders, preventing civilizations from expanding too quickly. Compatible with...

I had a mod just like this one commissioned, its a very interesting way to play. Did you by any chance get around city states spawning settlers?

Hello PotatoMcWhiskey! I used Angryr's mod as the foundation for this one (I notified him, and gave credit to you both within this mod). I added a few twists to the mod: more expensive production at higher population requirement, captured Settlers turn to Builders, and reducing initial Settlers to only 1 unless AI is set to Deity.
After about a dozen games, I am yet to see a CS spawn a Settler.

What about buying settlers with money and faith? Are these options restricted somehow? Money is one thing but with faith you could mass produce 'em a lot.

Great question, Tovarish! So the way Civilization works is that it assigns a 'cost' to the unit, and that cost is not necessarily gold or production. It's a value that it begins at, and is adjusted by other factors as the game progresses. So at the very beginning it is the starting cost, and then it becomes reduced as that city's capability improves. The same is true for Faith purchases. As an aside, there are ways to get a free Settler(s) in Gathering Storm, such as with the Religious Settlements Pantheon.

That didn't answer my question which is: isn't it possible to bypass the restrictions of this mod by simply buying those settlers with money/faith?

The short answer is 'no', you cannot bypass this with gold or faith. My mod wouldn't be very useful if you could.
I explained to you how the game works with costs. This mod causes the Settler unit to cost 1000 base production, which is equivalent to 6000 gold/faith (in Ancient era). The actual cost scales down with each era and as production capacity improves, so what cost 1000 production/6000 gold in ancient era will cost less as the game progresses.

Hello Das Capitolin, thanks for your interesting mod.
I used to play with version 1.3 or 1.4, I don't remember exactly. I made the update to your last version 1.43 and now it seems it doesn't work anymore. Am I wrong ?
Thanks.

Hello! Thank you for writing me with this concern. Although I have played many games already with New Era Settler Mod 1.43 and it has worked for me, I do play with other mods. So this morning I disabled all other mods, and started a new game with only 1.43. It worked just fine, and I received a new settlers when I entered a new era. :)
It is possible that another mod you are using could potentially interfere, but you will need to check that for yourself by process of elimination.

Hello, sorry, it's my fault, I have just a few games of CIV 6. Your mod has no problem.
I started a game in Renaissance Era in prince difficulty with 2 settlers a the begining. After many check, I realized the AI opponent had one more setllers than me and I thought it was your mod...
I don't understand why the AI in prince level start with one more settlers ?
But anyway, your mod is great.
Thank you.

Hello Malrog: Thank you for sharing these details, your information has been very helpful. I just checked, and it seems that my mod is not restricting the computer's number of initial Settler's like it used to do. I am going to troubleshoot the cause, and release an update once it's fixed.
