I disagree, it was a day of great victory & celebration. Byzantine Empire was already over & quite rotten by that time.

On topic: Sounds like Ottomans & Mehmet are probably in cVI. :)

    Agree to disagree. :)

Anyway, I do hope Byzantium makes an appearance in CIV VI.

The fall of Constantinople drove Europe to find new ways to trade with the Far East that didn't involve the Ottomans. It spurred the Age of Discovery and the ascent of Iberian-based empires.

Yeah! And as a result of the conquest of Constantinople, the Ottomans became more powerful and brought stability to the muslim world as a result.

I wouldn't count this as any evidence, unless proven wrong, I don't think any of their "historical" or "sciencey" tweets have ever been a foreshadowing of anything, has it?

Maybe Turk or Byzantine civ? Well they'd need a religious civ and Civ always goes for Classical Rome.

Have there been many other like this? It feels like a teaser to me. I'll allow myself to get excited about it, anyway. :)

Time to time they post some random tidbits. I mean hey if it's a teaser yay but I don't think it's ever been done before on their twitter. I know they often posted a lot of tweets about Sci-Fi/Science Achievements before.

Byzantines are either the Roman civ, after they lost their capital city, or argueably the Greek civ.

And led to the genocide of the indigenous peoples of the New World! As always, history is complex, and few events can be said to be universally and unequivocally "good" from every perspective. For Western Europe and the Middle East, the fall of Byzantium clearly had positive effects; for Byzantium, Eastern Orthodoxy, and the native peoples of the New World, it was clearly negative. ;)

Byzantium is a must. Turkey sounds less interesting, though.

Both Byzantine Empire and Ottoman Empire are in all games starting with civ 3 either in vanilla or added with an xpack. So I don't expect it will be different this time.

I doubt the Byzantines are in vanilla Civ6 though.

I also expect the Ottomans over the Byzantine Empire.
