With the holidays coming up, I thought it might be fun to see what new games we are all giving a chance. If it winds up being fun, create a thread for it!
The ones that made the cut for me:
- Ara: History Untold. Of the new history-spanning 4X's, it's the one I paid the least attention to during development, but it seems to have found its feet and a good reception. So, I'll be trying it this winter!
- Old World: Wrath of the Gods. I'm back up to having all the Old World expansions! The dynamic map aspect of it - with shifting ocean lines and varying mountain navigability - sounds particularly interesting to me, even as I might keep just as much of a wary distance from volcanoes as I tended to in Civ III.
- Clanfolk. I've been wanting a new base building game for a while, and the reception to this one seems to be very positive. So, it's off to the Highlands to build a village.
There might be a couple more that I'll pick up in December, we'll see. Memoriapolis and EU5 are on my radar. Played a bit too much EU4 in 2024 and early 2025 though, so I'm ready for more turn-based strategy games. Elemental: Reforged also looks interesting (but I should really play Fallen Enchantress first), and at some point I'm sure I'll want to try Endless Legend II, it's just a question of when.
