Hi there :)

I've created an interactive tech tree web page for GalCiv2:
http://www.cosmicrealms.com/galciv2/

Simply click on a tech to expand it to the next level.

You can zoom the size of the tree by increasing or decreasing your browser font size or zoom.
Hodling control and moving the mousewheel usually does this.

The tech tree is generated live when you click directly from the XML data.
So it's up to date with the latest patches.

To use the search, just choose any fields you wish (you don't need to select them all) and hit 'Search'

Once you hit search the tech tree will auto-expands to all levels necessary to show you results.
Also the boxes will be highlighted in some manner to show you the path.

*UPDATE* The web page now supports Dark Avatar! Simply change the game type using the top left dropdown box.

Anyways, I hope people find it useful! :)

That's very nice. You can't really see the tech tree in the game, because that window is so impractical. So I find that useful.

And a piece of advice: I'd take an "Expand all" button, or maybe even "Expand all from here on" rather than search. I don't say search wouldn't be useful. :D

I'll see if I can get those two things added :)

Thanks :)

Okay, I've updated the page with the new 'Search' feature.
You can hit the 'Search' button any time it let's you, you don't need to choose all search fields.

Anyways, the web page is a lot more 'useful' now as before it was just a toy :)

Wow, perfect. I'm gonna go through this a couple of time before playing :D Well done.

I like the way it only shows details about the searched techs.

Edit: I think the Weapons (or Ship Modules, to include engines) section is missing ...
Edit2: The way search works actually negates the need to expand things.

I got this alert :p

Hahaha, that's funny. That alert should be impossible!!!

I'm looking into it.

Also, I'm adding Starship Components in, I held off last night because it requires three dropdowns rather than just two.

Okay, I've added 'Starship Component' which allows you to search for things like weapons, drives and hulls. Turns out I didn't need a third drop down after all ;)

I've also fixed that bug (well, it shouldn't happen anymore)

Also added a 'Improvement Type' item in the drop down, allowing you to locate where in the tech tree Galactic Achievements or Super Projects are located :)

Thanks for the comments! Comments are one thing that keeps me going creating things :)

I hope some folks find the tree useful :)

Added a new search category of 'Ability' so you can find out which technologies increase your Logistics, or Social Production, etc.
Also changed the sorting of the dropdowns to be alphabetical for easier finding of things in them :)

Next on my improvement is a MUCH greater detail of things when you hover over technologies.

I've made some improvements! :)

Enchanced the details you get when you hover over techs by a great deal.
Now it shows everything that you get with that tech (example Morale +10%)

Also you can now hover over any technology (before you could only hover over matched techs).

The tech details will also appear much quicker, and the techs will 'fly out' faster as well which should make using it a bit more speedy.

It's Getting better all the time  !!! I wish I could use this in-game, its so hard to navigate the tech tree and to find out information on what tech unlocks what :( . You nicely combined both in a cool way! :thanx:
