New Member, help needed

Hello all. Ive been a long time fan of Civilzation. I used to play Civ III alot when it first came out. Just decided to install it again last night and i found this site. Man talk about mods an addons. Looks like it can make Civ III almost a new game. One thing i never really like was if your attacking like a spearmen with a marine and ur marine loses. But ive been looking around and i see a bunch of different mods that make the game more enjoyable. So here are my questions:

1)I've patched up to 1.29f. Ive been surfing the forums for about an hour and its alot of information. I really like that earth mod i saw but i saw a bunch of different versions. Could anyone give me links to the newest file.

2) Also is there any site that might have all these downloads in maybe a download section rather than in the forums? It would make searching alot easier.

3)What kind of upgrades and what not would you recommend for me to get to get back into this game (reg Civ III).

4)I see that since ive stopped playing 2 more Civs have been release, ptw and conquests. Are these alot better than the original civ. How you recommend picking one of these up.

yeah i checked this cite out just last week, so many things to catch up on. Defenetly get conquests, it comes with play the world, good stuff.

CD:

1: Try the customization and creation forum.

2: The only other Civ III site i know is organized the same as this one.

3: The terrain mods are very popular, try snoopy's or warpstorm's.

4: PTW added 4 civs (celts, ottomana, spanish, and norse), some minor new featrures, user scenarios (most of which are available here free), and online play.

Conquests includes PTW with the addition of more new civs, some excellent new featuresand some great scenarios made by the designers.

there is some debate about the Conquests, check out the forum for the specifics, and opinions are still out with many about whether its worthwile. the main debate revolves around new corruption and forbidden palace changes. in my opinion conquests is worth it, especially considering the 9.99 price at amazon.com.

Um... PtW came with 8 civs, not 4. Conquests throws 7 more in and an 8th if you don't mind messing around with the editor.

If you enjoy Civ3, Conquests is worth your money (especially the sweet $10 price Amazon is offering). The scenarios are unbelievably well-done. The main game changes are worthwhile, too. The 2 new added civ traits are my favorite change though -- adds a freshness to the pool of civs.

Don't get the Play the World expansion, though. It's included in Conquests.
