I don't know how many others do, but I hate the way Civilization 4 has layed out the resources in the city screen. It's a nightmarish array of little icons and numbers, with scroll bars in weird places, and overlapping with the specialists. Even in the best cases, it's hard to use, and in the worst cases, it's just plain terrible. I got so sick of it, I redesigned it to be a scroll like the building and trade routes menu. Here's a demo of what I've spent the last two hours doing:

What do you guys think? Good, bad, suggestions?

(Note: Hovering over an individual resource brings up the hover text, and clicking brings you the civilopedia article).

Awesome, way better than the current format

Much better. Are you going to have your "goods" in a new scroll box or the same ones as resources?

I figured I would have two small circle buttons, one to the right, and one to the left of the word "Resources", the left one would show resources, the other, goods.

Great idea, thumbs up from me!

Will it scale to other resolutions/would the resources visible at one time be easy to alter? I play at 1920x1200 and obviously having just 5 resources visible at a time would result in a lot of wasted screen real estate.

Part of my city screen just to illustrate the difference: http://i40.tinypic.com/t9z581.jpg

I like that a lot, Afforess! :D

Very nice! :goodjob:
In addition it would be great if the resource bar would not shown by default, but for a button click. Same for specialists. (These are the slow part of city screen)

Awesomeness! also it will expand right? I play a 1280x800

Yes, it will expand. I tested it out on 1920x1200 (I have a big screen too :p) and it expands all the way down to about 10 pixels above the last specialist. I'll post an expanded screenshot.

I'll grab it for next RoM version ;)

Please do!

Dirty Little Secret: Hiding something on the main interface doesn't mean the code for it isn't run, it just means that the "Show" command is skipped. It won't speed up anything.

I wasn't offended by the old setup, but I like this. Perhaps they should be sorted alphabetically within the Strategic / Food / Luxury types? And could you detect when a resource is received via trade like so:

Gold (1)
Silver (1)
Iron (1+1)

where 1 silver and 1 iron are received via diplomatic means?

Good Idea, I can show imports and exports. I'll change that and upload a new copy.

That is great, Afforess! Especially for those of us who don't see as well as we used to. I don't know why no one thought of it before. You have my undying gratitude!

Late to the party!!! :p

Well, it looks great! And it will definitely help a lot with my low vision!!! :goodjob:

[offtopic]Oh, btw, you mean the area above Buildings list is the trade routes list? Can it be used for Commerce hover-over I talked about in another thread? [/offtopic]
