New Resource: Glass

... Um, except that isn't glass basically made from sand?

Well, right. But glass was a valuable trade good until the late Middle Ages. The secret of glassmaking was... top secret. BtW, Some of the original ressources are also not as "natural" like it seems. So what's the problem with glass?

Everything depends upon POV -- in my modding, I ignore saltpeter as it's commonly found in manure piles; yes, a secret at first ... ;)

Also, having a manufactured good like glass be a "natural" resource begs the question of placement -- only adjacent to those cities where glass would have been manufactured?

I didn't want people to get a pile of sand mixed up with saltpeter. Also, aluminum is in a final form, as is silk, dies, and incense.

Exactly. I personaly prefere having some more "ressources", wich could give each scenario a specifical feeling, even if this are not 100% real "ressoruces", over a few "correct (and only) natural" ressources wich are nearly the same in every scn. So my POV is different from yours - and glass-ressources are o.k. to me. I allready use glass in my own Rise of Rome Scenario since beginning. ;)

Well, sand doesn't appear in the forest. Also, look at aluminum, that's a final product, as is insence... If you want sand, use saltpeter.
