New Revolution: An Imperium Offtopicum Game

Mercurius
5/20/1960

The Papal Elections have finished
This morning white smoke rose above the Vatican signaling the election of a new Pope. After weeks of endless debate the Cardinals have announced that Celestine VI from Avignon has been elected as the New Pope. Celestine VI announced this morning from the walls of Avignon that he will be moving to Rome within the week, but at the moment that Catholics across the world can rejoice, the second western schism has officially been ended!

Caesar Giovanni Messe address's the people of Rome
Yesterday Caesar Messe addressed the Romans calling for multiple reforms and announcing many new policies. We at Mercurius have decided to give the people a transcript of Caesar's speech so that all may know these changes.

"People of Rome, Now that the war is over we can once again be on the path to growth and prosperity but first off we need to make sure we can get to that position. The war has hurt our Industrial effort and we cannot continue this. Rome must Industrialize. We must re create our industrial capacities and push forward. The Legions are our sword, the Industry is our Shield. However Rome cannot be able to push forward without the help of you the People of Rome, the Senate can't do everything, and I am calling for you to support this effort and to help rebuild the Roman Industry.

Continuing on, Rome has faced threats internally as well. There are many factions conspiring against the Senate, the People, and the Legions. The Communists plotting to end the Senate, and to turn the Roman people into slaves. The Socialists who allied with the Occitanians and aided in the treachery caused by the people of northern Italia. Finally the Anarchists who seek the complete and utter destruction of the senate, and plan on plunging the Roman people into chaos and lawlessness. However the people of Rome need not fear. These groups who seek the destruction of the Roman way have been swiftly dealt with. The leaders of these groups have been taken care of, and their movements are losing followers fast. Along with that to help secure freedom for the Roman people, the Communist, Socialist, and Freedom party have been declared Illegal, anyone belonging to those parties is now considered an enemy of the Senate and the People and must revoke their membership or face the consequences.

Finally in an effort to help secure peace and restore order to the people of Rome I announce the creation of the Praetorian Guard. The Guard is there to help the people of Rome, they are our protectors on the home front, they are there to keep the people safe and to protect against threats against the freedom, safety and, security of the Roman people.

Long Live the Imperial Republic
For the Senate and People of Rome!"

Election of 1960
This year was an Election year as many people know, and we at the Mercurius will not allow you, our readers to go without knowing what happened to the senate seats.

Republican: This party who's platform relies on the power staying within the hands of the Senate lost the most votes this election round.

Centrists: This party's platform revolved around more power for the former Consul also lost seats, but not as dramatically as the Republicans.

Militarists: Focusing on the expansion of the Military, this party also lost votes but still not as dramatically as the Republicans

Expansionists: With their platform calling for the Expansion of Roman territory they lost almost half of their seats.

Imperialists: The Imperialists who are basically a combination of the Centrists, Militarists, and Expansionists almost quadrupled in seats in the senate during this election.

Industrialists: The Industrialists who call for an increase in the Industry and cooperation between the Employee and the Employer gained a few seats this election but not many.

The Socialists, Communists, and Freedom parties, due to being declared Illegal have lost their seats and were given to the voters second choice on par with Rome's Instant Runoff Voting policy.

THE GREAT SONEREAL HATH SPOKEN ON THE HOLY UPDATE
Sonereal: "the update will come tomorrow, and not today because I'm going to be busy"

South Africa Realigns

The President has just finished signing several pieces of legislation designed to change the current diplomatic obligations of the Theocratic Republic to the outside world.

The Treaty of Timbuktu (1959) is henceforth revoked, thus terminating the defensive alliance between the C.U.S.S. and South Africa. South Africa had repeatedly requested that C.U.S.S. back down on the Messina Crisis, but C.U.S.S. has repeatedly refused. South Africa finally gave an ultimatum: either C.U.S.S. would relinquish its claims, or lose its only military ally. Given this, C.U.S.S. did not even give a response, instead ignoring it and continuing to debate with the Messina signatories. This new legislation is the result; effective at midnight last night, all communications with Freetown Pact HQ were severed. While South Africa hopes for continued good relations, it cannot legitimize a continuing alliance with a state that is goading Europe towards war while also calling South Africa naïve and constructing plans of some grand European conspiracy to conquer Africa.

The Treaty of Sparta, on the other hand, has just been signed by the President, establishing the Kingdom of Greece as South Africa’s defensive ally instead. The language is quite clear that the alliance will be defensive, South Africa insisting that its doctrine of non-aggression will not be violated. There was much debate over the treaty given Greece’s xenophobic remarks, but the government agreed to it on the basis that words ultimately only can hurt you if you allow them to. “Short of amplifying one’s voice to the sound of a shrieking engine, words alone cause no injury and should be given little regard,” the Foreign Ministry published in a released statement. With Greece’s demonstration of economic, military and diplomatic reason, as well as its growing economic power, they were deemed to be a perfect ally and have been given this honor by South Africa.

The President has effectively left C.U.S.S. to deal with the Messina signatories (which the Defense Ministry previously concluded have a superior military and productive capacity versus C.U.S.S.) on its own, and while South Africa continues to advocate peaceful resolution to the dispute, requesting both sides give concessions on the matter, it is feared that Europe and Africa are on a collision course. A course that the government believes it and Greece have both avoided.

“You cannot dig a hole around yourself and then request a passerby to lift you out of it.”

South Africa has left the C.U.S.S... to ally with a anti-Semantic dictatorship. What in the name of Frantz Fanon is the logic of allying with the Greek government?

If you want to avoid being friends with a war maker then you have made a mistake. Greece is leaded by a racist with plots.

As for our stand: I see South Africa does not like the idea of a nation voicing their concerns over not being in a conference. We have being trying to lay down a comtemise between us and the Europeans. Alas it appears South Africa has yet to learn of how to do political consideration. It is in the interest of the C.U.S.S that we made our voice herd and our recent purposed deal will ensure the map looks good too!

Still I guess allying with a power that valued the land by price instead of its people was our own mistake. As a true African power we will consult with Arabia for a possible alliance: their empire may prove more keen to the ideals of the counter colonial movement than the government of South Africa, especially as it seemed to confuse "trying to get something out of a situation" with "war making." South Africa is sure in need to some leadership teaching.

In relative news we hope for a chance of a healing of relations between us and Hispania. We suggest a fresh start with a meeting between our two leaders in either Gibraltar or Morocco. Either way if the issue of borders is still at the corner then it is here in the meeting we can set a diplomatic redemption for our relations. We could even talk about revising the Freetown Pact, although this will be a question of considerations. What ever the case we hope not to get into argument over our definitions of imperialism again or may Franz Fanon have mercy on our directives!

Because they are not backing themselves into an unwinnable war. Robert Menzies takes the CUSS situation as an example on the failure of capitalism, capitalism encourages bad decisions to be made. That is why the DPRO has the strongest economy while Africans under CUSS are eating dirt.

OOC: I love your RP NC! :goodjob:

If you want to avoid being friends with a war maker then you have made a mistake. Greece is leaded by a racist with plots.

Racists are not necessarily warmongers. We find racism distasteful but it is a social position, not a foreign policy one.

Our alliance is to be defensive, as a note; this is how we interpret the treaty. Should Greece come under attack, we shall assist; should they attack a nation of their own accord we would be relieved of obligations.

Alas it appears South Africa has yet to learn of how to do political consideration.

We considered the politics very well. Europe had reasonable claims, made it clear they're not going to compromise, and we accepted this at face value. At the same time, CUSS was not going to compromise; we obviously do not want to be party to an incident where neither side will give concessions.

Still I guess allying with a power that valued the land by price instead of its people was our own mistake.

Our nation is one of economic considerations, not ideology or dogma. The Lord mandates we use our reason, and that we do: there is no need to contest Morocco from the CUSS perspective. On the other hand, Spain has a great deal that it could lose.

CUSS was essentially requesting Spain abandon its ability to prosper, and we do not blame them for becoming militant on the subject; bear in mind we did not ask them to reconsider their claims. We did ask Rome and Greece; the former gave good grounds for expansion into Libya and the latter abandoned their project entirely.

As a true African power we will consult with Arabia for a possible alliance: their empire may prove more keen to the ideals of the counter colonial movement than the government of South Africa,

If people are treated equally we see no issue with Europeans pushing into Africa. As we are all human, the "anti-colonial" sentiment that keeps being repeated ad nauseum is inherently fallacious; if the government treats all its citizens equally, why should we care if it's Europeans ruling over Africans or vice versa? It is but a label of origin and nothing any more substantial; as the CUSS are socialist, surely they would know nationalism is an obsolete ideology. Regionalism applies to merely a large area, and any true socialist regime would abandon it.

especially as it seemed to confuse "trying to get something out of a situation" with "war making."

This is comparable to the Pharaoh of the Exodus story trying to extract concessions from the Hebrews, who were his slaves.

Spain has nowhere else to go but southward and westward. Western land is limited, whereas southern land is more vast. While they could go overseas, that has enormous bureaucratic repercussions and we do not blame them for trying to avoid it.

Whereas CUSS has about one-third of a continent to itself, yet insists on a few scraps of land to its north. We find this position ludicrous and unreasonable.

South Africa is sure in need to some leadership teaching.

We have already articulated our reasoning well enough, and request CUSS avoid such belittling remarks in the future. As it stands, we are neutral in the disputes between CUSS and Europe, instead asking cool heads be maintained on both sides to avoid an unnecessary war. However, we are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain an aloof stance when one of the parties involved continually patronises our government.

Racists are not necessarily warmongers. We find racism distasteful but it is a social position, not a foreign policy one.

You can be surprised on how a domestic policy can effect foreign policy.

We considered the politics very well. Europe had reasonable claims, made it clear they're not going to compromise, and we accepted this at face value. At the same time, CUSS was not going to compromise; we obviously do not want to be party to an incident where neither side will give concessions.

We have been asking for a conference that would allow this... which you reject. We of the C.U.S.S had indeed made a controversial consideration of plans but we set a newer one that laid with the European's plans with issues of only 4 provinces being set to our request instead of the many before. If you feel we are not of compromise then you must be a power than follows a value worth standing for.

Our nation is one of economic considerations, not ideology or dogma. The Lord mandates we use our reason, and that we do: there is no need to contest Morocco from the CUSS perspective. On the other hand, Spain has a great deal that it could lose.

Your "economic consideration" is a dogma of capitalist model, set on the mind-set of profit of land instead of the people. Our dogma is of compassion: your is of greed, one of the worst agents of imperialism. It is sad this has leaded to few scandals in the C.U.S.S in which political figures have to resign after labelling your government "coconut" with resigning in the sake of honour for embarrassing their party but it appears you are adding fuel to the fire. What is the defining of your reason? Reason is defined culture per culture basis, as is the value. In the end we fear the "coconut" slurs set over your mind-set is... being fuelled.

We have set in consideration and argued for a conference. The war talk was... not from our dominion and the militant approach came before the polite asking. Hence why we are trying to make conference plans.

We are socialists which is why we are among the most anti-colonial and greatly concerned of you dismissing of nationalism completely, for in its ills nationalism does allow a community setting. Cosmopolitanism a issue in itself: sometimes people try to portray communities and cultures as "same" to try to base that "they all should be like us" in their minds. Our stance is to ensure imperialism, whether it is nationalistic or cosmopolitanism, does not engulf the world as it did once ago. We will be patient in how it would be, for the Revolution will not be stopped what ever the case.

Your "reason" is questionable in definition, especially as how it is a dogma you follow that is... uncompassionate, nor do we see how you could relate slaves to the Spanish. Western land is not limited: Hispania has some land left to claim, just as France has yet to claim all its land. In the end Spain had the choice of industrial focus and setting to talk with us. To say they are forced, set on a line, is a argument of "fate" and a presumption of going "up and up" that is often founded in the arrogance of British powers like South Africa as it has proven to be through its dogma of profit.

Your government is not only proving not considering to the way other powers define reasons but is rule by a set of presuming. Your nation should hence keep our of the issue all together as it clearly proved that "a capitalist knows the price of everything but the value of nothing" in consideration to your "reasoning." You are ruled by a reasoning of what power exactly? The reasons we are not a Marxist democracy, as oppose to our current democratic socialist model, is that the Revolution is not a pre-destine because of a considering of time and history but of a spirit which we adopt for our outlook. It is in consideration to Franz Fanon hence we have come to note a form of colonisation that is the colonisation of the mind. This form of colonisation is the worst as even if a people attain formal independence from their colonial controllers they are still controlled mentally by the outlook of the colonialists and set in motion to act in the interest of the "ex-"empires. We hope one day your mind is decolonised for it has proven to be set by a note of "reasoning" but in the end what is to be is to be set by the fate of the Revolution. What will occur? What sets our knowledge?

I guess as we enter a post-modern world we will see what is a lie and what is a lesser lie, for the sake of what is reality can even be set to its own questioning. The C.U.S.S may still find that the Revolution is not a socialist one but a ideology that is of nothing we have seen before. Modernity is a western term in itself, set on the idea of a line that others have to follow like slaves before the master but in the end we are coming to a age like no other. We of the C.U.S.S are perhaps slaves to the Revolution one could argue as the great Mansa Musa of Mali was to God? Who knows. What we know is that South Africa's view of the world is not to the communal interest to the C.U.S.S and as such we regret having signed a alliance with you in the first place. It has only made us realise that Spain, for its militant, is the least imperial of the powers, for there are forms of imperialism that require not boundary but of the mind and set by the oppressed to do the duties of the colonialist. Hence our meeting plans with Hispania will be set to hope of considerations, of finding a solution of compassion and justice as oppose to cold heart "reasoning" that the Brits enforced on the world.

The Revolution will be strange indeed. We hope to consider with Our People's Government on our apology to them for we may have set a mislabelling in certain areas. Mali and Spain are both nations that could get to know each other better. We even consider a offer of a renewed Defence Pact with Hispania which can be set with a loan of a factory worth of economic resources being set forth as a mark of our apology for causing a great international PR disaster between our powers. May be mediate on our actions and stand so that the dictatorship of Greece and the authorities of Australia do not exploit our turning on each other. In the end we may find true peace and the Revolution will lead to a resurrection of humanity, in all its culture and diversity. Let the diversity not lead to us versus them or the diversity being destroyed. In the end our differences are what notes our similarities, for the C.U.S.S is a collective of persons as oppose to a individual collective or a mess of the selfish. Our People's Government is like the C.U.S.S in that area, as well as like the C.U.S.S in passion. We have reasons not to divide. We have reasons to forgive, although not to forget for that would stop our redemption. Our C.U.S.S will earn its forgiveness. We look forward to set a party to Morocco which will be a good place to do meeting.

We have been asking for a conference that would allow this... which you reject.

A conference generally implies both sides have something to lose, which is why they negotiate. We see Spain as having something to lose; CUSS not so much. It is over Morocco where the debate is, hence Spain's situation requires the most consideration. The land in Iberia is very minimal, forcing them to look elsewhere. CUSS has all of Northern Africa to itself and yet insists on infringing upon Spain's desired territories.

Your "economic consideration" is a dogma of capitalist model, set on the mind-set of profit of land instead of the people. Our dogma is of compassion: your is of greed, one of the worst agents of imperialism.

Our dogma is of a cost-benefit analysis. We want all parties' economies to profit, for this would assist everyone high or low. Spain is well within its rights to pursue the cost-effective lands of Morocco, whereas CUSS is stirring up trouble by insisting on a few specks of land rather than moving eastward or southward.

If South Africa's arrangement was taken, all nations, CUSS and Messina, would profit. As it stands, however, the parties are on a collision course. We have been toughening our talk specifically to try and avoid a war in the Mediterranean basin, but few are listening.

It is sad this has leaded to few scandals in the C.U.S.S in which political figures have to resign after labelling your government "coconut" with resigning in the sake of honour for embarrassing their party but it appears you are adding fuel to the fire.

We are not pro-European. We are not pro-African. We are pro-human.

Our proposal benefits all human nations party to the dispute, rather than just one side or the other. We gave the best path each nation should consider given political realities and economic benefits that could be expected... but as was said, few are listening.

nor do we see how you could relate slaves to the Spanish. Western land is not limited: Hispania has some land left to claim, just as France has yet to claim all its land.

Hispania's land is far less numerous than that of Africa or elsewhere, that can be determined for certain. They are pressed against a wall, and CUSS is requesting they become one with the brick and mortar, rather than simply moving to another wall.

that is often founded in the arrogance of British powers like South Africa as it has proven to be through its dogma of profit.

South Africa asks once more that CUSS refrain from belittling remarks.

We hope one day your mind is decolonised for it has proven to be set by a note of "reasoning" but in the end what is to be is to be set by the fate of the Revolution.

We are fairly thoroughly decolonised given that we have asked Europeans to reconsider their claims as well. We are trying to avoid a conflict on both sides, and have given suggestions to all parties.

Greece, a state that CUSS demeans so frequently, was willing to listen to economic reason and a great conflict has been avoided as a result. Why can't CUSS do the same? Spain has made it clear they would consider military action, so why is CUSS throwing away the lives of its people over such minimal tracts of land?

What makes Morocco so much more valuable than Nigeria, or Benin, or the Sahara?

we regret having signed a alliance with you in the first place.

The feeling is mutual, we are afraid.

We have never once insulted the people or government of the CUSS, only tried to stray them from the path of war.

It was the Lord's will we try, and we have failed. We hope He shall forgive us for our failure.

There will be no compromise, no conference, the territories of Spain will be unified. No imperialist African nation is going to stand in our way. People of this Republican Government, our great struggle with the forces of the Nationalists is now all but over, the last offensives to break the siege of Madrid are underway, Badajoz will soon fall to our troops and earlier this year in a stunning military action supported by our Galician allies we took control of Burgos, marking our victory over the last remnants of the organised Spanish Dictatorship.

But even as one threat sets under the horizon another arises. Another nation wishing to rule over brave Spaniards. They have made their intentions clear; their goal of African domination. And who can say that that is a noble cause; fighting in the name of socialism to control an entire landmass, with no reason other than greed. They have threatened us, with taking our rightful lands, with military action and they have threatened our allies as well.

And now they expect us to negotiate? They expect to meet, on our soil? Well let me tell you this People of the Republic there will be no conference, no talks, not until every man and woman of this Republican Government rests under the assurance of the Es Castell treaty. Spain will rise my friends. And we shall make no concessions.

So go with me now people of Madrid, go forth and show the world what it means to be Spanish, what it means to be a Republican!

Rodolfo Llopis, in a recent speech on the barricades of Madrid - Broadcast on Radio to all territories of the Republican Government - From Barcelona to El Aaiún

To Premier Rodolfo Llopis of Our People's Republic

We have heard your speech and are... disturbed that our ally has seemed to lost compassion. We have suggested to set meeting to talk the land issue, on how the Western Sahara needs to be considered. The issue of mapping and on how blindly following the maps of the colonialists of the past would not be a grand tactic in the new age of mapping, the age of rediscovery, the age of collectivist path and the age of compassion... basically we of the C.U.S.S wished to talk, to compromise. However your statement of "no compromise, no conference" is in question.

A conference is not of lost but of ensuring peace, for to lose peace would be the question lose to have. We are issued that Spain should not go to war over two provinces not claimed by Spain that are not naturally part of Spain and that the only claimant is of colonial control. Have you got similar claimants over South America?! To reclaim the path of the colonial and to call us imperial is the path of the hypocrite. Out People's Government should be like that. We know you are better then this! We know you do have a sense of compassion and hope your people are willing to lay in consideration to this.

You do realise that by attacking us there will be limited question on how France and Rome would react, especially as by reaching out they might have considerations. The C.U.S.S a war would be exploited by the enemies of both Our People's Republic and the Collective Union of Socialist Societies. Even as we speak the Greek government are attempting to annex parts of China, in practice for their "civilization mission." In the world where the strongest power is the ambiguous Empire of Chicago it would be suicide for two comrades to do a U-turn.

We need to talk and sign a treaty to set agreement for plans. We can ensure you that the Western Saharan territories we wish would be best on map if set out by our most recent consideration. For the sake of the people, of peace and for the look of the map it would best you took compassion by seeking to do a talk with us. If your not willing to talk in Morocco then we could ask a Third Party like Rome to host our conference. The Revolution cannot be set in motion of the zealot but rather of the compassioned.

We are open to open migration between our borders to ensure that the citizens can move to the power of their choosing if you fancy but in the end the Western Sahara is not a place to war over, especially as the conditions would be Hellish for the attacking troops. We do not plot to conquer Hispania and we are not claiming provinces that have a majority Spaniard population. The Maghreb would not be amused to have been collectively classified as Spaniards when the Maghreb in Morocco are Moroccans. Similarly the peoples of the Western Sahara are not the type who will fear oppression from the C.U.S.S, not that we would wish to oppress anyone. The Sahrawi, the people of the Western Sahara, are not property of Spain. They are not Spaniards and we will provide them protection from any claimants. Their societies are grand and we will issue that the Hispanic heeds our considerations as logic of notion that compromise is possible.

As we have deployed out the peoples of the C.U.S.S are bounded by a Pan-African unionism. We not imperialists in the cloths of liberators: we are wishing to defend the rights of peoples. We ensure you that the two provinces of the Western Sahara will be our only consideration, as after that we will look to recruit elsewhere. We granted no threat to your nation and have only taken what hence we regarded as a tax on war threats. See that the world is of a different era that it was a few decades ago and realise that the borders of what was is not necessary kept, as seen in the break up of France and the fall of the United States of America. The C.U.S.S are not your enemy and would wish that you realise that our hand is set not with blade but with compassion. We are not interested in going to war but instead are interested in naturally keeping the C.U.S.S growing. As such we suggest you heed not the dark path of destruction by threatening us with war but rather have conference with us so we can talk of policy, especially on my purpose suggestion to the Senate and Peoples Council to have industrial funds sent to your land. Consider that at the least for the sake of not making the sands of the Western Sahara red with blood.

Please take the path of compassion and of justice. Do not take the cold hearted path of no talks.

Premier Nsia Jaja of the Collective Union of Socialist Societies.

P.S. I have taken the liberty of posting copies of these letters to several news agencies so that the people will have knowledge of what I have posted to you.

From Greece
To South Africa:

We officialy recognize that you have become from Barbarians to Civilized people. Welcome to the family of civilized nations!

South Africa is pleased to have been given this distinction and hopes one day all nations can likewise be classed as equals with each other.

The CUSS and the Jews are Barbarians who will never become civilized.

It appears South Africa quest of "equality" is not a just one but rather a quest of imperialism to form all clone under Western definition, especially as how South Africa has agreed with the notions of the vile dictatorship that rules and oppresses Greece. It appears the C.U.S.S and Egypt are the only African powers present, for South Africa is a demonstration of the colonisation of the mind. We hence offer our Egypt a defence pact offer in consideration of our common bond.

Our recruitment process is hence more important than ever. We will be moving eastwards in the coming years, with southern takings just to be on the safe side. The only contrary to this will be a few yet unclaimed provinces south to east of West Sahara. With these set forth we can continue our mission to protect as much of Africa as we can by uniting the peoples into a Pan-African block. To failure would mean a repeat of the 19th century colonisation of Africa, which would be dark indeed.

OOC: note this will possible try to ignore North Africa.

Also: I made a mistake. It is 5 year terms the Premier of the C.U.S.S has. This means this year was suppose to be the election year.

Oops. I will try to correct this by setting the election results but I may keep Jaja in if only because I use the character in my diplomacy this turn.

South Africa feels that if a desire to avoid unnecessary tensions and war makes us colonial, then by all means we shall be colonial.

We do not care for ideologies or labels, and feel their use just makes one look petty. We care solely for peace in Africa, which is what we have spent the last year so desperately trying to secure.

Unfortunately we are certain we have failed in this pursuit, given Spain's response. At the very least we can take satisfaction in how we tried to avert one.

May the likely war between CUSS and Spain be quick and have minimal loss of life on both sides.

There will be no war...

So long as the CUSS allows us to take the territories we have asked for.

From Greece
To Republican League:

We believe that it is unfair that a Democracy like Greece has been expelled from the League because of it's disagreement with the CUSS Barbarians. We are a democracy and we believe that this bullying of CUSS should not be allowed. We call the League to allow Greece to become a member of it and stop the CUSS bullying of Greece. If we are not accepted, it will only prove that this, so called Republican, league is in fact nothing more than an alliance of CUSS and it's puppets.
