It will be interesting to play :)
I have not got the files yet. At which time will you send them to me?

Peregrine's gonna email them to us individually

I'm going to start sending the files now to the players in this thread. So far, every day I've been making little improvements and tweaking the scenario. It's come a long way in just the last two weeks. My current fear is that this process will continue, and the version I'll send out tonight will be totally obsolete in a week's time. However, that's what playtesting is for; to find flaws and problems that I might miss.

So we'll begin.

If you have any questions about the scenario, please read the Impread files 1 and 2. If you still have questions, either email me or post them here so that others can see the answers. My email is; exile@gbronline.com

edit; Darius, your email won't allow me to send attached files to you. I can't get it to you unless you can change this or give me another addy to send it to.

I guess Russia goes first :)

BTW Exile/Peregrine Canberra wasn't founded untill after 1910 ;)

Ah, didn't see that edit until I realized that case had already gotten his files. I found out that I can't get rid of that lock, but there are other ways of getting them to me. For instance you could throw together that temporary geocities site they were talking about at Apolyton, but only send me the URL so that you keep your secrecy. Or you could start an unnoticable thread in a rarely read section of one of these two forums, and then email or PM me where it is located.

Darius, why don't you just sign up for a free hotmail account, then get the files emailed to that? You can then simply download the files from the hotmail page.

What Case said. Or something else like it. I can send the files to a hotmail address. I don't want to post them anywhere where anyone else can get them right now. Just the playtesters.

Case; well, Canberra starts out pretty small, doesn't it? Just try to think of it as a population nexus out in the sheep country (or something) :p Like I know obscure Australian history facts. It's just the capital of the country, for god's sake. ;)

Game files received. :goodjob:

Doctrine of Yankee Imperialism passed both House of Representatives and Senate.

Playing order is as posted in the first post by Peregrine?

Ok, here it is:

Darius8712@hotmail.com

By the way, the free account apparently has a 2 MB limit on total storage, and gigamap scenarios usually have far more than that. If yours does, just send a 1.9 MB file, I'll download it and erase the email, then you send another 1.9 MB file, and so on.

Is this the case for all hotmail accounts? 2 really does seem small to me.

Also, please no one send me messages to this addy as they will likely never get read.

Germanos, here is the actual order according to Henrik:

Russians
Japanese
French
Germans
Americans
Brittish

1. Which name should the folder have there the senario is stored(sub folder to SENARIO folder)?

2. Which difficult level should we use?

3. In which mode should we play(in single player mode or multiplayer mode)?

4. Which rules will we have in the game?
For example:
- Is citybribe allowed?
-Is unit bribe allowed?
-Is all wonders allowed and which wonders are possible in this senario?
-Which alliances- and teamwork rules are in use?
-Tech trading OK?
-Tech stealing OK?
-Are we allowed to study the whole start position(all civs cities and units and terrain maps)?
-During the game, are we only allowed to see our own map as in a normal MP game?

1.) No idea where you can place the folder. I just made the thing. Where you store it is up to you.

2.) The default setting in the scenario is preferable. I believe that it's set on "king."

3.) I think the standard is MP, and then a save. There should be some instructions around here somewhere for the customary pbem game.

4.) No diplomats in the game, the entire map is revealed at start to all players, tech trading is ok, and see the Victory section in the readme file about how to win.

Well, I can definitely see Exile's usual style in this scenario, and it's looking pretty good. With the preferences questions answered I could do the turn:

Once again, here's FMK and Henrik's PBEM guide (those guys should be paying me a comission  )

There have been many PBEM's falling apart due to players leaving without notice. So I suggest we will ALL send our passwords to Peregrine, so we can find a sub if necessary.

Furthermore I think we should set a time-limit in which we will have to play our turn, or at least we will have to reply to the thread there is a delay of some kind.

Given the large civ's involved in this game, I would say 72 hours should suffice to play your turn.

ad. 1: indeed a subfolder to your scenario-folder. Imp1870 will do.

ad.2: difficulty is set by the first player (darius has done so)

ad.3: When it is your turn:
- Multiplayer/network/TCP/load a saved MP-game/ select the save game you downloaded from the thread (note: ot must be stored in your Imp1870 folder)/play your turn/save/attach save game to your message here/DONE :goodjob:

ad. 4: See peregrine's notes. I guess everybody can study the starting map as much as they like? Not sure though. In other PBEM scenarios you are usually able to download the files before you pick your civ, so you would have looked at them all to determine which one you want.

I don't think the following was mentioned in the guide, but I think it should not be allowed to download games from the thread before it is your turn. In my first PBEM I did, to check on the progress of battles I was involved in, but it had the nasty side effect that civ's that should still play their turn would be played by the AI untill it was my turn again, which would sometimes reveal valuable information on what units they would have. We all know how the AI likes to attack with defensive units from cities f.e.
Also, no talks with AI can be held unless allowed by the respective player. Upon contact the emissaries must be send back.

VERY IMPORTANT: don't forget to Ctrl-N at the end of your turn with just one unit active, if you don't it will very probably mess up the position of your units, and this could also mean AI-emissaries conducting large scale tech-trade. I have it seen quite often that people end up with techs they didn't ask for. Usually good for the receiving party, but bad for the one leading the tech-race. And it can very well not be his fault.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: you need a utility called LazyCiv. I think this is also mentioned in the PBEM-guide. There are two kinds though: Version 2.2 (?) for rtegular MGE/FW, and a LazyCiv Costum if you have the MGE upgrade/ addon to regular Civ (2.42)

I don't understand what you are talking about!

Why? What should it be good for? And why comes it now, I think important info should be there already from start...

It loo likes more important info will come up later so, this will propably be screwed anyway (:

So my tip is that the player that arrange games ensures that all important onfo is there before he considering starting the game.

As I said now we have unclear stuff that is said is important and we game is already started!

What is your idea with that senario? What players should want to play it? Or you just think you made a good and realistic model of the world 1870?

Neither of it has been achieved! The punny cities in the game don't reflect the big cities Japan had. You said you could not create size 50 cities but you can create size 20 cities but have not made it (:

I think this senario is extremely unbalanced and I can not see a future for it in it the form it have now. I know the big nations like it.... Maybe a solution is that AI plays the worthless designed nations. I think it will be VERY hard to get a human to do it.

I already feel I have waste a lot of time...(((::: and I have not moved yet and there is no idea I do it either during this conditions. Japan can not achieve anything and can equally well pass. They have no military power either so war is no alternative methode to expand with.

I am very disappointed and will not play the senario in the style it has now. Therfore its better you get a new player before Japan moves.

I am sorry for that, I excepted a much higher level of seriousity in the balancing and playability of the senario. I know it's fun to play around with new city improvments and units but it requries very much from the designer in balancing to get a playable senario.

I now understand why you not let us download the senario before we selevted civ.
