The only place I wish to "re-invent the wheel" is while actually playing CIV so would it be ridiulious of me to ask for help with MOD project with almost no experiance and one day on the forum ;)...lol

How about I start with the asking if the hardest part is even possible.

Is there a weather module in this game anywhere? Or else some other part of the game that can be used to create cyclical storm damage that can only be mitgated by certain units, buildings, resources.

This stuff is called "thread" and it most closely resembles acid-rain on steroids. You can burn it out of the sky with your dragonrider units, protect your land with "ground crew units" right after its over, take shelter under stone or metal. Hope that its cold enough to freeze it into "black dust" and it will drown in the water so you always have sea life. Unprotected organic material is rapidly consumed. al organic resources must be protected and all traveling units must regularly seak shelter in this world.

This deadly rain is on a fifty year on 200 year off cycle. It starts out slow and then gets more frequent until it tapers off. At the low point a particular location will see "threadfall" every few weeks, at the high point about every every three days. It lasts about fifteen minutes in any particular spot and continues moving across the map (twice in history it vanished for 400 years)

So here is the qustion is there any way to make such a threat for the game.

The people live in vast cave systems to survive if you are wondering.

If you recognize this description and/or want to make this world come alive feel free to chime in :)

Oh and we need dragonrider units any out there?

It's certainly doable - actually nearly everything is, if you are willing to code it - but it sounds like a big project... Might want to start smaller - learning adding units, buildings. Eventually events.

Don't remember the books name, but it does sound familiar somehow...

Dragonriders of Pern.

As Refar says, nearly anything is possible if you know C++. Modding the .ddl will cetainly allow you to do that.

Actually, now that i think about it, there are some dragon units out there, and it might be possible to put a rider on it. That would be one deformed cavalry though.

Yep book series - "Parallels Earth Resources Negligible" was the acronym from which the planet gets its name. ;) Take the first letters of that acronym and go pick up your books again ;) As far as I'm concerned not only is it one of the most interesting worlds out there but I think its completely MODable in CIV which has me VERY excited.

I am planning to start smaller, much smaller...by starting the scenario in that nice 200-400 year break between "threadfalls" ;) but if the more complicated time period can't eventually be created why do it all...

Besides if I'm really lucky far more experianced MODers will want to do a lot of the advanced work <pleading impish face>. I mostly want to play this really bad...I don't actually need to be the designer but I'm very willing to help as much as I can.

I know the world pretty well so my goal for myself is renaming resources, civs, leaders and modfiying the tech trees/wonders...using someone else's fully credited graphics. I *might* be able to customize a destructive weather MOD but creating one from scratch is going to be WAY beyond me for a very long time.

And with any luck the map from CIV 3 will be useable...yes I have contacted the creator of said map :) I haven't even tried to import it yet though let alone back date it to the pre-AIVAS era.

LOL deformed Cavalry indeed. Technically we might have to base them on a small transport of some kind in the coding but visually a calvery/dragon thing...they are used in the books mostly to transport goods and persons in a world where travel itself can be very dangerous. And of course they have a duty to protect the various CIVs from this destructive rain. They don't function as military units in the normal sense though.

As for C++, nope not among my skills.
