Not quite as famous as the Zero, but extensively used.

OMG... nice job!!!!

thanks much all )

not 100% positive spirithiker, but I think the Oscar may have either been developed slightly before or at the same time as the Zero. I believe the Zero was primarily designed as an IJN fighter and the Oscar as an IJAF/IJA fighter.

The Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa (Allied code name "Oscar") was developed after the Zero per a spec of the Japanese Imperial Army for a high altitude interceptor fighter. Like most Japanese war-time developments, they were rushed and therefore many quirks and faults had to be ironed out on units already in service. Unfortunately, time was not on the Japanese' side... with the result that otherwise good designs never fulfilled the purpose they were built for...

Another World War II plane. Yay! :bounce:

I've never added an air unit to my mod
But this one has gotta get in there
(even if I rarely make it to 'modern' times)

Incredible!

The new Jap aircraft from Ripptide brings me to think about the scenario/mod SOP.
Lets see this as a wishlist besides the comments and info on the question of Japanese Aircrafts of WW2.

Some fine variants of the famous ZERO is to be had, both the PTW version and the much finer one from Wyrmshadow.

Aglo made a fine Mitsubishi G3M "Nell" longrange landbased bomber.

The Val by xxxx is must probably a Nakajima B5N "Kate" torpedobomber. The cockpit of the Kate is more like the one made,
so naturally I hope some will come forward and create a true version of the Aichi D3A "Val" dive bomber. It was the japs counterpart to the famous SBD Dauntless.

The Yokosuka Ohka Kamikaze aircraft was made by Wyrmshadow.

Then we have the xxxx version of Mitsubish Ki-30 "Anne". This could be used as the Val too, but I still think it's better version as the older divebomber used by the Japanese Army in the war against China in the 30's.

Wyrmshadow then have the Mitsubishi J2M Raiden "Jack" in his fine collection. This was an interceptor that could be used to upgrade the Zero. It was the fighter trying to fight of the B-29 bombers attacks at the end of the war.

The Kawasaki Ki-63 Hien "Tony" was also made by Wyrmshadow. This fighter belonged to the Army It was brought into action in New Guinea in 1943 and also played a part in the defense of the Japanese mainland.

Then finally we have the "brother" to the Zero. Nakajima Ki-43 "Oscar". Just grand.
This was of course the predecessor to the Ki-63 Hien.

On the fighters we have an upgrade path for the Navy-version ; Zero then Raiden and for the Army we have this Ki-43 to the Ki-63.

If we should look to still important fighters it would be the early Mitsubishi A5M "Claude" that served as the Jap Navys most important fighter during the Sino-Japanese war and was numerically the most important fighter at the time of Pearl Harbor.

The armies version of early fighter was the Nakajima Ki-27 "Nate" . This first low-wing monoplane fighter was in production from 1937 to 1940, then replaced by Ki-43.

The best fighter in the Jap Army was surely the Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate "Frank". It was only made operational in early 1944.

So eventually I hope for a complete upgrade situation in time for SOP for the fighters like perhaps this.
Jap Navy: Claude - early Zero - late Zero - Raiden
Jap Army: Ki-27 - Ki-43 - Ki-63 - Ki-84
In my opinion just superb.

On the bombing situation it might be harder and more planes have to be made.
Beside the early divebomber Ki-30 "Anne" served the heavy bomber Mitsubishi Ki-21 "Sally".

I do think we miss the most famous of all jap bombers in Mitsubishi G4M "Betty". It should of course be an upgrade to the present G3M "Nell" bomber, both with lethal seabombardment.

To finish the heavier bombers upgrade path we should look to the Mitsubishi Ki-67 Hiryu "Peggy" that came into service early 1944.

Considering the bombers we must look to complete the important Jap Navy dive- and torpedo bombers.

The Aichi D3A "Val" is a most, together with Nakajima B5N "Kate" torpedobomber the most famous Jap plane beside the Zero.
The B5N "Kate" was followed as a torpedobomber by the Nakajima B6N Tenzan "Jill", almost as famous. A third upgrade should have been the powerful torpedo bomber Aichi B7A Ryusei "Grace" that begun to arrive in service mid 1944.

So torpedobombers: Kate - Jill - Grace

The divebomber Val was followed in the upgrade path by Yokosuka D4Y Suisei "Judy" sometime in late 1942.

That would make an upgrade for dive-bombers : Ann - Val - Judy

Of course several more version could be brought forward but even this list for a almost complete SOP is huge and hard to accomplish.
However I and surely more will hope for the best.

For those that lost the long respons I give a short list to remember and comment.

Fighters for the Army
Ki-27 Nate
Ki-43 Oscar already made
Ki-63 Toni already made
Ki-84 Frank

Fighters for the Navy
A5M Claude
A6M Zero already made
J2M Raiden already made

Dive/torpedo bombers
Ki-30 Ann already made
D3A Val alreade made, BUT a question if not this is a B5N Kate
B5N Kate
B6N Jill
B7N Grace

Medium and heavy bombers
G3M Nell already made
G4M Betty
Ki-67 Hiryu

Supercreators like Ripptide, Wyrmshadow, Bebro, Hunter, Winter, Aglo and probably dozens more I can't remember. I put my hopes in you...

I'm sure the creators of the upcoming SOP will agree....

There's already an A5M Claude done but being held back for SOP (along with a couple other aircraft), but there'll be a B5 Kate and a G4M Betty coming soon cemo1956

Ripptide,
do you still have in mind to make the Mitsubishi G4M "Betty ???
I do hope so and of course that old British MBT Centurion.

You have been mentioning these in several post I recall, so I just check if they still are on the "menu"....

Have a nice summer !!!
