What if you made the icon for a airbase look like a Coastle Gun and made shells for it with the missle unit spot. You could set 203mm for 10 space shot 155mm for 7 space shot and 105mm for 5 shot that would be cool for a Dday scenario or a Island hoping scenario for the pacific. Is there any way to not let planes land on it.It would be great to slug it out with a fleet trying to invade. Its just a idea:rolleyes:

can't we give to a land unit "submarine" capabilities ? (transport missile) so just give 0 movement pt and u have your 105mm and 155mm costal gun without airbase capability

Good idea, but the AI doesn't know how to use airbases :(

Captain Nemo used a method similar to the one Eyn suggested in the inital version of Second Front [one of the best scenarios ever], but changed to using cities in the later versions of the scenario (I can't remember why though)

:crazyeyes Great idea I never even thought about making a land unit with submarine abilities I didnt think you could .Thanks Eyn :goodjob: I am going to try it out

Could you make a aircraft unit transport a missle or ground unit. That would be neat has any body ever done this let me know thanks:)

but u could use 2 possibilities
1-not really interesting: glider unit
naval transport unit with paradrop possibility
2-most interesting for modern war: Air refuelling unit
air unit (3) with "can transport air unit" capabilitiy so other aircrafts could end their turn on this unit

... of course IA won't use these units

Think of the possibilties though: a Chindit scenario where you transported behind enemy lines and need to build aribases to advance and get supplied or in Captain Nemo's SF for airborne troops or a Market Garden scenario. I think that the "glider" unit has more to it than what it seems.

I don't think that that's possible :(

Yes I think a glider unit would be worth looking into does anybody have any unit icons I would love to see them

Case is there any body who could edit the rules or program so we could transport a land unit.A C-130 tranport would be great.Or like civ III has where you could build an army with units in them you could have large battle were you didnt have to move every piece. If you where the Germans in WWII you could have a Army Group North with units inside it would be fun.Is there any way to modify the program:confused:

No Plumbean, I'm afraid there isn't...would be cool though

here's a thought: I think the ww2 scenario craze ends here, does it not? Civ3, even if scenarios do come out, isn't malleable enough, not like civ2, where you can change many things, but not all...I mean just think about it, how would you feel in ww2 if you were the danes(16 civs remember) and you lose all ur cities in an instant to the axis culture? Assimilation doesn't work well in scenarios....with some exceptions

I dunno how this ties in with anything else any1 has sed but it's 2am gimme a break, if I have an interesting thought I write it down so i dun forget it heh

Thanks for the info Rhodry I have Civ III but I dont like it very much.I think Civ II is better in so many ways any I will keep on playing it.:D

I am just wondering If you make a coastle gun with submarine abilities and I make shells that are the missles and stock the gun will the AI use these has any one ever done this before

Yes, as I've said Captain Nemo did this in Second Front. (he also made working V-1 missiles using the same methodology)

Download it now! http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2scenmod.shtml
(the scenario is about 3/4 of the way down the page)

Trouble with making a coastal a sub unit with 0 movement is that it'd be impossible to create one. As soon as you've built it it's stuck in your city forever with its inability to move. Even if you provide the player with a large stock to begin the game with, it will be impossible to repair them too. Once you've lost all your guns then you'll never get them back. Unless it'd be possible to make it so that a wonder, say Coastal Defence, gives an event when it is finished. This event gives the player a load more of these coastal units in pre-determined positions to allow extra protection but not in a space that might be already taken by an existing gun. Assuming that not all the guns have been destroyed, that is. Another trouble with the sub ability would be that coastal guns placed close together would be able to play "catch" with their shells, and fire them from one to another across the shipping lanes.

I didn't think so to be honest. :(
Therefore, once you have lost the guns then they are gone for good unless you have an event that gioves you loads more when you don't need them. Some way of having a wonder give you the guns would be the best, because then you would only build it if you needed to, but this isn't possible by an event, nor any other way I wouldn't have thought.

Maybe you could give the unit a parachute ability and you could move them once when you first build them after that your stuck:crazyeyes
