How about this... a new use for a Great Leader would be to eliminate the period of anarchy when switching government types.

So far with C3C, I have not had a period of anarchy less then 7 turns. I don't know if they have wratched up the anarchy or not. Seven turns is a killer... especially when you are at war.

After all... isn't this what you would expect from a great leader... to be able to transform a government and unite a nation?

Of course, Religious civs don't get the period of anarchy.

Mmmh I think that would not be worth sacrifying your leader for !
What are you doing switching govs in a war anyway ? :) especially if you're not religious !

Sometimes governments do fall. War weariness strikes down mighty democracies, etc.

I would give up a great leader to make a smooth transition during a war. You can not sacrifice 7 turns of production when getting hammered. Or lose 7 turns of tech research which could be enough for a full advance.

Oh yes, wars and democracies don't get along very well :)
I guess the AI declared war ?
Do you have all the war-weariness buildings and wonders, Women's suffrage, police station and so on ?
Of course, in your case, being able not to fall into anarchy would be sweet :)
So maybe it could be a GL option, yes !

I'm speaking in general as a new game option... not to save my butt just this time.

This particular epic game has been rough... transitioning to democracy coincided with the "nationalistic world wars" (all the Civs hit nationalism and sign MPPs which leads to 100 years of non-stop war). So I never really had an effective working democracy since I was hit with war weariness soon after... and needed to build more cathedrals, etc.

yes, this would definitely be a great feature. Since they took out the GW rush, it would be nice to add in another little idea.

7 turns of anarchy is a great reason to play a religious civ where you only have 2 turns at most wasted.

It is not a bad idea but i don't believe that i would ''sacrify'' a G.L just for changing goverment.Only becuase they are a species hard to find!Maybe another type of G.L.Since they made S.G.L,why not making also as many said a Religion G.L,which could have this kind of ability..

ohhhhh kinda like The Statue of Liberty was in CivII....I miss that one...but giving that ability to a GL would work even better than the SoL was. This way you would have to have a GL to do it, instead of building the wonder. If you don't have a GL well...too bad LOL. I think they took the SoL off because it was a bit "too much", but giving this ability only to GL would make sense, and wouldn't give the benefit to just one civ.

for those, who say its too weak. maybe lower corruption for 25 turns also? or adding a 5 % bonus to the shield production in each city? (maybe my suggestions are too strong :))
I think it's a pretty nice idea . :)
