Hey guys,

I just recently "aquired" Civ3. I've found it to be quite addicitive! But my problem is, most of the things you all are talking about in forum, I can't even get to yet. I am starting in Chieftan. What are some good strategies to start with? Also, the game says it is going to end in at a certain date. I can't remember what it was, but I'm very close. Can I change it to continue indefinitly?

Any tips would greatly help! Which group is easiest to work with or advance with etc....

Still Learning.

The game ends at 2050 A.D. If no one has won by any other means, then whoever has the hightest score (in the histograph screen) gets the win. You then have the option to continue playing, but the score will no longer be calculated and you won't be able to win by any other way.

If you're looking for strategies, try reading some of the stuff at the Civfanatics War Academy (Click Here)

You may learn the game faster if you start on warlord. Chieftan stacks the game so much against the AI, that you don't come away much wiser. You learn twice as much from the games you lose. :)

A lot of what you learn will come from experience. A couple things to keep in mind, time your settlers so they pop out at the same time your cities reach size 3. Also, trade/buy technology from the AI. If you try to research everything yourself, you'll fall far behind.

Once you get a feel for the game, browse the strategy section and the war academy, and do some experimenting. Any build orders you see are just guidelines, theres too many variables to follow one exactly. In no time you'll develop your own style. :)

That is 2050 on the game clock, not the real world glock (though it seem like it sometimes:lol: ) A full game can take from 8 - 22 hours to play depending on variables. Keep it up and check in regularly; and don't be afraid to check the older forums or to ask any questions. Most of us don't bite; but those who do have had their shots! Good luck

My advice, "Get a life." (Just kidding.)

But if that's not practical, take Sparrowhawk's advice and check out the Academy.

Hey Guys thanks!

I've only played like 2 real games. Actually the 1st one i quit. I couldn't take it any more watching my people village by village be tortured and burned by the Bloody English! LOL....

ONE quick question....I MUST be doin' something wrong, because after about 1 hour into play....I am in debt! and the debt keeps rising. I'm like -200 right now!

Are you people unhappy? If so, try using military units to enforce martial law. You can use up to two per city while in despotism.

Turn on city governor. Check and see which squares are being worked. Make sure there are roads in those squares. Also check your city advisor screen (F1) and adjust the tax rate for more money.

BTW, grymlin, Civ3 is a complex game which you may not get right away, but it is well worth the effort.
