    There is a risk in settling cities too far apart that the AI will oftentimes happily come in and settle cities in between if they think they can get away with it, which can completely cut off your city connections. I had that happen in a game awhile back, there wasn't much decent terrain between my main empire and some good land further away, eventually another AI came in and settled a city and cut me off, initially I was able to get Open Borders but eventually they got annoyed with all the border tension and declared war on me, breaking several city connections.

    What mod is that? I could use a decent color mod after my last game being as Celts next to Arabia.

    Change the MinDistanceCities and MinDistanceCityStates values in ..\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\(2) Community Balance Overhaul\Balance Changes\Worlds\WorldSizes.sql. Setting those to 4 is the first thing I do every update.

    Personally, I settle almost all of my cities at 4 tiles apart, with the occasional 5 and a very rare 6 if terrain forces me to. I'm only at Emperor level, with an occasional foray into Immortal, but I find it's not too difficult to get most cities to pay for themselves culture/science wise and between specialists and many tiles being rather "meh", there's almost never a time when I really wish I had more space in between cities.

    Thanks, thats what I am searching for.

    The AI is (mentally) poor. You only increase the buffs in higher difficulties. And something that need buffs to compete with others is in my opinion, poor.

    its a pitty that AI cant win war vs human player. it, just cant. until there will be that life-saving element, where ai rather escape with 60% hp units instead of kill some mine, there will never be any chance for ai. they are unable do at least 1/1 kill-death ratio. I dont understand, when AI is set on military production if AtWar'', why they so much tend to save units, which they loose anyway.

    Please, try again some fighting in Brave New World. It's easy to forget.
    By the way, I noticed you improved your writting a lot! (Although I believe you wanted to say 'lose').

    I think make competent AI in every way is a matter for this thread( and a place for opinions). But i doubt its a place for posts like this one. I didnt call for suggestion, but again, i highly appreciate your informed answer. senselessly defensive. i just would like to see how ai behave without this saviour nature( actually save anything what would be usefull again in future). AI can hold a line or cannot. thats all. runing with 60% hp units doesnt help to anything. and honestly, this is exactly the reason, why authority AI won't be efficient, ever. it cannot use its 10 hp heal and cannot high risk- high reward kill stuff(for science/culture) without turn their back to enemy, just bcoz of few hp lose.

    You describe a reality as if there is a simple switch one can make and suddenly they will behave like X. Besides, if the AI became suicidal someone else would complain about that. Right now, the AI is a fine balance of the two.

    I like to spread my cities out. That's a Sims-aesthetic mentality, and it doesn't often correlate to efficient Civ play. From what I've read, the benefit from more, smaller cities seems clear. Yes, it's annoying when the AI screws up our sense of aesthetic contiguity. But it works for them.

    How the hell do you lose on Emperor? Every time you mention you play on King, I intend to ask. Your grasp of the game has really helped my own, so... I'm curious.

    I used to be peaceful like you, until my friend Austria STABBED ME IN THE BACK! I'll kill that ***** in the face every chance I get. I'll kill them all! Love is pointless and the only good ally is a vassal without the ability to declare independence!

    Also sometimes I still play peaceful games, you just need to get a lot of science. Being #1 or 2 in science is a universal requirement for every non-domination/political victory in my experience. In those you can afford to just be in the top 50%.
