Does it help to have more than 1 of the same luxury??

Which luxuries are the best? I noticed that some of them give more than 1 happy face or is that from having more than 1?

Are luxuries more valuable for different governments?? I am still having problems with Republic or Democracy. Monarchy seems to treat me better.

-Only that it allows you to trade the extra luxury to another civilization.

-No luxury is any better than another. The amount of happy faces depends on the multiples of different luxuries you have; if you have one ivory, one spice, and one wine, then the first two give one happy face, and the third gives two happy faces. Throw in gems, and you have the gems giving two happy faces as well. If you get a fifth luxury, it will produce three happy faces. Hope you can understand my muddled logic... its a friday.

Nope, luxury resources work the same for Monarchy and Democracy (unless there's some funny business behind the scenes.) The amount of luxury "happy faces" for having an assortment of Luxury Resources also depends on whether you have a marketplace at that city.

With marketplace:





etc.

Without marketplace, you just get one smiley for each different resource.

As far as I know, the only happiness differences between Mon/Communism and Rep/Demo are military police (yes-no) and War Weariness (no-yes).
Both of those factors make it harder to appease the plebians in a Republic or Democracy, which is why it's often necessary to switch some of the greatly increased tax revenue of those government forms over to Luxury tax.
