No, wait! Have a little bit of fun before you get it! Now that there's a bunch of exploits and cheats all discovered for 1.07, you can do a lot of things. Demand 999999 gpt and get it, along with all the AI's cities. Trade worthless techs for boku bucks! I did that when I had to reinstall it! :) :D :D
You should still upgrade to the latest patch. If you want to cheat buy Civ2 or download one of the cheat programs in the utilities section

Thanks Bamspeddy and Yndy about the info on terraforming with nukes. As i said im usually finished before the Nuke age, but it appears to be not worth the effort.

OK, a question for a change...

If I accept the request of a neighbouring AI city to join my wonderful empire, due to CFing, will the parent civ of that country regard me as a low-born scoundrel for accepting their deserters? Or will they blithely ignore it, accepting the will of the city?

This is a vanilla civ3 question, but may be interesting for PTW too.

This is one case where perhaps the AI will not bear grudges as a human might - I can't see this being forgiven in MP.

I'm not 100% sure, but I never had any negative reputation effects from flipping. Flipping happens a lot on regent (I build a lot of culture righ buildings quickly). I had a 'gracious' Alexander once that remained just as gracious after a 12 pop city flipped to me.

MadScot: they will definately not be happy, but it shouldn't affect your reputation. Theirs feelings towards you can be made up with a nice deal later on - so don't worry.

If you are weaker - be carefull! I have seen longstanding allies suddenly declare war when the flip-accepting pushed them over the brink!

Aggie: as the expression of happiness is controlled by many factors often underlying hate is covered by a smile - especially between allies. if you just gave Alex the ROP and MPP he wanted, then declared war aganst his enemies he will be 'gracious' - even if he's out for your blood!

You're right about that. But I'm not talking about these kind of extreme bonds with another CIV. I almost never have MPP's (too risky, you're not in control of the time to go to war). Like I said, I never experienced a significant negative effect from flipping on your rep. But than again, I did not test it fully.

Killer is right: if you perform a cultural attack, they will get mad at you (no rep loss though): if your culture overlaps the enemy city radius, they might attack!

I've got a question about this thread. Sometimes there are questions that I think are quite interesting and I think I know the answer of (see above - culture flipping). I give my point of few and sometimes my answer is corrected by others that know more about the topic. I think that's great, because I learn something from it as well.

But is this the way to use the thread? Or should I only reply when I'm 100% sure (on questions like 'what's the latest patch of PTW')?

A surfeit of information in the newbie thread is a good thing, IMO. If you're wrong, you'll be corrected, and that will improve your play. Otherwise, the other people answering may not answer the part of the question that you are incorrect about. Just remember, the other people could just as well be wrong, so don't take it on blind faith. Trust documentation more than anecdote.

How do you reload a hotseat game? I know how to reload regular multiplayer games, but I don't know how to reload a hotseat game. Do you select "Load Game," and then be able to select Hotseat?

The manual says that you must load a MP game from te MP, menu but I don't --- I just go to "Load Game" on the main menu and it works. However, the "Difficulty Level" displayed on the screen after that is often incorrect. :crazyeye:

One thing I do not recommend: if you start a single player game and from within that SP game control+L to load a MP game you get strange results -- often it converts the MP game to a SP game.

 OK, I'm a bit confused by this. You say to just load it from the main menu, and that this works (except for an incorrect difficulty level), and then you say that if you press ctrl.+L to make it multiplayer, it becomes single player. So my question is: When you load it from the main menu, is it Hotseat or single player? Also, have you tried loading it from the MP menu?

If you load it from the main menu, it's hotseat.
If you use CTRL-L during a game to load a saved hotseat game, it turns into single player.

You can find more on this in the PTW patch 1.14 bug report forum

Thanks a million for your quick reply! Now I can play Hotseat assured that I'll be able to quit whenever I want. :)

When I load it from the main menu it just stays the same as is was when it was saved. If it was hotseat it stays hotseat; PBEM stays PBEM. Control+L is a special case -- it's not the same as "Load Game" from the main menu for MP games. Control+L doesn't even work while you are playing PBEM and hotseat games, but Control+S does AFAIK.
