After reading some of the succession game threads, I thought I would propse an idea. I have yet to play in a succession game, and I would like to form a group that learns how to win succession games. I would like the group to start out with people who have no succession game experience, but I would accept people with a little experience if it was necessary just to get it going. I would also like players who are either at Chieftan or Warlord experience in Civ3. I have beaten Civ3 with all victory types on Chieftan, and I've beaten it once on warlord. The idea on this is for our group to become so close knit, that we are able to beat the Beyond Sid difficulty at some point in time, and for fun of course. I would leave membership open until it reached 7 players, and try to keep it at 3-7 players.

So in summary:

Wanted:

1)3-7 players who cannot beat a difficulty level higher than Warlord.
2)Players should not have too much, if any, succession game experience.
3)Patient people

I am somewhat flexible on this however. And if anyone has any input, please feel free to give me some.

A great idea Sandrock! Hopefully this will bring some of the lurkers out of their shells.

However I wouldn't limit it to conquests, this limits alot of the people that might be intrested, but don't have conquests so can't sign up. I'd go with PTW or even vanilla so you will have a broader range of players.

[no this isn't a sign up, just a post of support for your idea]

I'm watching that 3 city game you're playing, so I know you're not the type of person I'm looking for.:D

I really don't care which version it is, as long as its Civ3. I'll have to wait and see what happens.

And thank you for your support.

Looks good.

Let's hope this brings new blood into the way too small SG playing roup of active players we have. :) (Did that sentence make sence?)

Not signing up, obviously. :D

I find your idea great, and I want to make a suggestion. First : do you want to play ONE game, or a real serie of games with the same group of players, allowing nice discussion and better game skills as the months pass ? If the latter, let me tell you I'm planning to set up a training game in some not so distant future (maybe 1 or 2 months at most, if I'm still happy with my idea). This leads me to a thought : why not hiring me as a teacher for a serie of games that could run up through the levels ? :) If you find that idea :smoke:, let me know as soon as possible ! Otherwise, I'd like to run such games for a fixed group of players. That would require some patience indeed, so that players don't drop out after 2 months. I wouldn't play BTW, just comment, criticize, help, give hints and tips... ... ...

I won't do it if it's not with Conquests though. Also the game is currently a little flawed, so I suggest you waited for a patch or something (the Forbidden Palace is really messed up and you won't want to dislike it, uh ? ;) ). And that could let me some time before starting, because right now it would take too much time... and I still need some C3C learning too !

Just my 2 cents, as I came on your post. :)

Hi

Im new here, I think this is my second post.

I would be intrested in signing up for this group.

I have experience playing civ 2, both single player and hotseat, although i never really played the game higher than warlord.

Ive been playing civ 3 for about 6 months, starting with vanilla civ 3. Ive had experience with play the world, ive had that for about 3 months.

I enjoy the game and ive recently bought conquests.

I can win conquests on chieftain with a cultural victory and ive won space race as well.

Ive played on warlord but struggled a little, though i have won warlord once.

I have never played a succession game before but ive read through the posts and would love to give it a go.

SolarKnight......welcome to the group. You seem to be at my level of expertise right now so that works out pretty good.

kryszcztov.....you're hired. I had heard about the forbidden palace. Is it true it increases corruption? I wish to do a series of games, and I would like to maintain the same group of players, although its inevitible that someone will be lost from the group. Then I have to decide if I want to add another player that is below whatever playing level the group has reached. I wanted to try a succession game, but it seemed to me that most of the succession games were challenge games, but I still wanted to play. I also wanted to give other players just like me, a chance to get in on a succession game, and I wanted it to be an experience where no one had to worry they would be kicked out if theit performance was bad. In fact, I probably will never kick anyone from the group, #1 because I hate being confrontational, and #2 its too much of a hassle. I believe the number one thing I have to learn yet is micro-management.

I currently have three icons in my Civ3 three programs folder. One for Civ3(vanilla I presume) one for PTW, and a third for conquests. I'm going to go test them all out and see what versions I'm running on those three. It should help things along a bit if we can get a version nailed down.

Oh, and does anyone have a suggestion for a group name?

That's a fast hire !!! :) Let's hope I won't be fired !

OK, so I suggest you waited for more people to come before starting a first game. Also we could discuss what you guys really want to do in your succession games : if you want to play quickly, or slowly with me emphasizing on details (micro-management), if you want to play one game for the whole team or one per player and compare, etc...

Also remember that I won't have the time to run such games before a little month (exams), and then it will be Christmas... But you could as well start a game on your own before that, and I could come and say some stuff here and there. Or you could each one of you try different games on your own, and then with more experience start a 1st SG. Is Regent a good level on which to start ? Or Warlord maybe ? Also remember I'll only play C3C from now on... but I'm thinking that, because I won't play, you could as well play your games with Vanilla or PTW (though I don't know much of the first). But I bet everyone here will have C3C. ;)

Point #1: Well, firing you would be tough simply because I'm not paying you. In order to fire you, our group performance would have to be so bad that virtually the whole Civ3 community would have to give examples of bad advice that you were giving. I somehow doubt that would happen. It's not like I need to sell tickets to our games.

Point #2: I will try and wait till the group reaches five in its membership. If this thread goes a while without any new members, I may start with three and we'll just add people as we go along. I will cap the group at seven. I figure with seven people there should always be someone to take a turn in case someone can't make their turn.

Point #3: I'd like to start with one game with the whole team playing, and see how we stack up as a group.

Point #4: I will probably start a game before you are ready to "train" us. just to pass the time. We'll amke do with whatever comments you can spare until you are ready to take the reigns. It's not like anyhing bad will happen. <_< >_> 0_0

Point #5: We will probably begin on Warlord, unless someone joins who has never beaten Cheiftan. This point is up for debate and will depend on the skill level of the joining players.

Point #6: I've listed all versions of the game that I own in the 1st post of the thread. I would prefer to do this on conquests because of the extra races and difficulty levels. However, we may wait until there is a patch, and there may be a player who does not have conquests. Have to wait and see.

I'm off to go attempt my first cultural victory on Warlord.

Sounds good. I've yet to beat a Regent game- lost patience with one, lost the saves for another.

However, my computer is in the shop. I did install Civ3 on ONE of my school's computers, so...*-shrug*

I taking this as a statement that you want in despite your computer difficulties.

Yes, you can join. We can always play Vanilla or PTW for the time being.

Glad to see this one is getting off the ground so quickly! Not to mention drawing out some lurkers with only a couple posts.:)

As for the difficulty level: I'd go with a level above the group average. IMHO SG's tend to be a little easier then normal games because you have so many different points of view & plans of attack. Plus if you forget something & goof up really bad, the worst you can do is burn 10 turns before the next person picks it up and normally notices it.

Good luck guys! I'll keep my eye on this one & try to chime in whenever I can to help out.:)

1 question:

Maybe this was already asked but is this for people new to SGs or for people who are new to Civ or both?

(btw, I play on emperor, haven't played an SG before, but followed a lot).

Edit: If this is going to be on warlord, then maybe this isn't the SG for me.

I managed to install Civ3 on a computer at school today. While my computer isn't working, I can still come here and get in some civving. Only takes five or so minutes to install, then I'm ready to go. Krys and I have been talking about a TDG for...a while.

Sounds cool. If theres room left i'll like to play.

I can beat Chieftain easliy. I have won 1 or 2 warlord games but nothing great.

This would be my first SG.

I second that! It's nice to see some lurkers get involved.
You guys/gals are liable to get deluged with advice! :p

Have a good time with this and good luck!!

Matt

Yes, Smellincoffee and I have been planning a training day game for a while, and you (Sandrock LQ) just gave the opportunity to do something cool !

If some of you guys want to start quickly, you could go with a game on Warlord, just to let you know each other in the group, and get ready for the big deal : beat Regent in the next game !! :D Also, if you play with PTW for that 1st game, it would allow me for better advice, as I'm obviously new to C3C and haven't completed a game yet (I just started a SG, and also started the 1st Conquest).

Then, if you agree, I could take the series in mine (the KRYS one), or you could just make your own series (the Sandrock LQ one, or whatever group name : I think this would be better for later reference).
