Civilization VI - Game of the Month 21

Welcome to the 21st game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif know (via Conversation (Private Message)) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual 6otM -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

Spoiler :
Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Once you have opened the save, DO NOT POST in the Announcement thread, even non game-related information. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date and final score (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by date and score). We will issue medals to the top 3 winners (based on earliest date finished). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

The recent patch seems to have created an exploit concerning Diplomacy, Joint Wars and Trading Great Works.

AI diplomacy seems to be completely broken in the summer patch (1.0.0.167) where in several cases you can offer absurd deals:
- Joint Wars: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/1-0-0-167-ai-overvalues-joint-wars-to-an-extreme.620697/
- Great Works: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/1-0-0-167-ai-places-no-value-on-great-works.620546/

These should probably be considered exploits.
Please do not make Joint War pacts nor Trade Great Works during this game.
Thanks.

edit - in addition, City Giving is banned as an exploit for this game.

You can trade 1 gold to AI for all their great works... they are happy to accept.

Ok! This is very insane :crazyeye:!

But I guess this not apply with Peace Deals. In this case I suppose it's not exploitive!???

About the game, Settle 1 tile SW, without doubt...

In what circumstance?
You have to define. I'll simply follow that definition to make the best possible way.
For example, if you say "you cannot convert an AI directly by city giving, I may give cities before I convert the last required city, then convert 1 city by missionary. That AI is treated as "converted by missionary" instead of "converted by city giving"

See no reason not to allow city giving, unless it is used to trade for, say, all of the target civ's relics and/or gold. That would be exploitive imnsho.

So is it allowed in all circumstances?(Except for Trading for Joint Wars or Great Works(Including Relics) since they disobey other rules?)

This is the problem with bugs and exploits. I cannot define it down as closely as you want because I do not understand all the issues. The guidance I will give you is that if you are offered a deal from the AI that is significantly better than it was pre-patch, it is probably an exploit. The only other option I have is to forbid diplomacy, that's ridiculous.

You shall define it before anyone plays, cause this may influence players' strategy.
My question is, is giving cities allowed in all circumstances (except for great work or joint war trading) ?

In the last religious GOTM (14 i think?) city giving was banned. Did something change since then to make it less of an exploit?

This will probably be my first Civ 6 GOTM (just switched from Civ 4). I'm having fun just learning the game. Beginner question, is it important to try and rush an early religion via Stonehenge or Holy Site, or is it considered smarter to just sit back and wait for the "free" prophet that Saladin gets?

I would say that the chance of getting one of the first prophets on Deity is so low that it doesn't justify a massive investment in religion for the crucial early turns.

GOTM 14 was on a lower difficulty level and with a non religious leader, but it still provides a good idea of how people approach RV, and it ends up being a mix of conquest and pacific spread, with typically more of the former.
