Civilization VI - Game of the Month 79

Welcome to the 79th game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series. Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC as the AI cant see that it will lose if it accepts the cities.

Very cool. Haven't played as Rome since I first started Civ 6.
I'm thinking settle where the warrior is to have that 2F2P tile right away...
I'm off work today and it's my birthday! This will be my afternoon! :goodjob:

Is it ok to create a gotm-spoiler-marked thread in the Let's play section (maybe in some hidden way to be made public later if possible) to keep notes? It's easier for me to write things down ongoing than think back at the end and it allows for more details. If not I can do it in a Word doc too and then copy/paste from there, it's just a little easier to do it in the forum directly.

Settling in place looks ok here - with Trajan's column the sheep and the truffle will be available in no time, and the mountains are much better in the third ring than in the second. I'll probably move the warrior first just in case to the hill SE to see if there isn't something that justifies moving the settler. Unless we are very close to the southern edge of the map, in which case I'd settle first to speed up the warrior's move NE by getting it to the stone on this turn.

Happy Birthday and best wishes for many more. :bday:

Not okay to keep notes on another part of the forum. Can you use a word processor and copy and paste later. That is what I used to do. :)

I agree with settle in place; first two tile expansions will come on T4&10, so get two good tiles very early. With free monuments and hence fast tile expansion, I'll have to spend that soon to be +5 gold tile on other things. Definitely AH first, then mining/astrology likely next two. Scout, then likely either builder or settler depending upon what the warrior has seen so far. Overall, try to keep general peace (not my forte as I like to warmonger) and even be friends/allies. Likely religious/martyr focus (get some "combat") with other tourism as best possible.

Why are you thinking to go peaceful? I thought that with Rome being a natural warmonger going for conquests is a good way to reduce the amount of tourism needed. My thought was start with Mining -> Bronze Working to reveal the iron, use an Encampment for SW and capture instead of build HS and either found if possible in time, or adopt if someone founds a religion with Reliquaries first. Scout first too and AH definitely at some point to coincide with the builder depending on when it's time to produce one. (and do the two animals and the stone for the inspiration)

Early wars are probably good. I didn't want to eliminate anyone as that reduces the number of civs to provide tourism. Taking a few cities and maybe eliminating one civ or targeting the highest culture civ is a good way to reduce the overall tourism needed. Balanced is probably best, but I like to wipe multiple civs off the map, which is not a good way to win a culture victory. I tend to overcompensate when not full out warmongering.

This is the same map type as GotM55, another Immortal culture victory but with Cleopatra (@leif erikson are you going for some Rome/Egypt alternate history theme ). The map has an inland sea (d'uh), it is very large and the outskirts are chock full of barbarians, so as Trajan would say - caveat emptor! I found that game to be particularly challenging, so this will be very good :smoke:

    EDIT - same map type.

Do you mean the same map as in "the same map"? Or do you mean that it looks kind of similar?

Made an account for this. Been looking to play a Trajan game for some time and a GotM seems like the perfect excuse!

Still working on getting my game settings set up, so I haven't dedicated great thought to my opening moves as of yet. Settling on the Truffle is tempting, but fresh water is so useful..

Hello, thanks for the game, looks interesting!

Sorry to hijack this thread, but for all GotM games in Civ 6, is it possible to somehow use the CQUI in these games?

I wasn't able to do it, I guess that's because the mod list is already specific to the provided game file. IIRC, in Civ 5 the UI mods were independent of game save files and I could play the GotM games there with UI improvements.

    Thanks a lot again :)

EDIT: It is indeed possible, found the answer here.

We do not allow the use of mods because we do not know how they change game play. The goal is maximum comparability of games played.
