Civilization VI - Game of the Month 93

Welcome to the 93rd game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series. Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC as the AI cant see that it will lose if it accepts the cities.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif know (via Conversation (Private Message)) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual 6otM -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

Spoiler :
Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don't be afraid to ask questions). It's also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Once you have opened the save, DO NOT POST in the Announcement thread, even non game-related information. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date and final score (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Hmmm... at first it was not an easy decision on where to settle. Since I consider fresh water tiles only,
  • In place - you get a 2/2 city center but the Spice is way too far. And only 2/2 and 3/1 tiles.
  • Banana on the right - you get 3/1 city center but it takes up a +3 (+4 if you keep the two rainforests) campus location. And the first tile expansion probably goes to the diamond (5.5) instead of the spice (5) unless there's resource near that spice.
  • Two tiles to the right, between the banana and spice, you do get the 3/2 tile immediately, but everything else is unknown. And 2 turns are pretty precious.
  • The tile where "Dorya" is written - too far and too many unknowns.
And as Ethiopia you want to settle on hills (almost forgot this). So it seems like settle in place is the only option.

SIP, mining first and a builder quickly to get the diamonds and stone improved for the for +2 faith for a quick pantheon, and + 0.3 science and culture.

Is the 15th of the month game now only deity? This is the 3rd one in a row that's deity.

This seems to be a really good start now that I have analyzed it a little bit.

One can probably do scout - builder - settler - monument,
first settler ready on T21, Religious Settlement free settler on T22.

If you buy another scout on T17 then by T22 you will have 2 settlers + 2 scouts.

How do you plan on getting Religious Settlements on T22?

How do you plan on getting Religious Settlements on T22?
Start with Mining. Scout out on T6, builder out on T13 (move to stone or diamond), improve one on T14 (+1 faith as Ethiopia). Take God-King on T14 (+1 faith again), improve another on T16 (+1 faith), so taking amenity into account, you get 2.1 faith for T14 and T15, 3.2 faith after that. On T22 it's 26.6 faith so if you are lucky you can pick Religious Settlement on T22. You can get your first settler on T21 so this Religious Settlement settler is worth 110 production.

Just a quick calculation. I could be wrong on this. The plan for population is to work the stone and then the diamond tile. Building order is Scout-Builder-Settler-Monument. Want to use the gold from the diamond tile and God King to buy the second scout.

If you ignore God-King and put in Urban Planning the first settler can be 1 turn faster but you get pantheon a few turns later, so it's riskier for RS.

No, plan for 6otM95, 15 Sep, is not deity. Hopefully all find this one interesting and those who don't normally play deity find it accessible.

Will that one also require FP?
I'm barred from playing either of the 2 games this month since they require FP; if this is going to be the case moving forward then I won't be able to play another GotM in the foreseeable future.

No, 6otM95 will not require NFP. Right now NFP is releasing new material every two months. Right now intent is one or both of the 6otM's the month after the patch release will use this new content; other games will not (so 2-3 of 4 games every two month cycle will not require NFP).

Great, looking forward the next one then.
Still a shame I can't play this one, the starting location looks amazing and Ethiopia seems like a fun civ.

Please check the forum in a day or so, I'm hoping you'll get a pleasant surprise. :please:

Don't you need to know and use the exact same map settings (like wet/dry, old/young earth, etc) and the correct enemy civs chosen for the map seed to recreate the map?
Yes. Most/all of these gotms will be all random civs though (excepting the player's civ).
