[BTS] News: BOTM 139 (Deity or Emperor) starts September 16

    BOTM 139: Augustus of Rome.

    August in September. Can Augustus Caesar handle the deity AIs? One of best leaders / Civ, but only starred once before in BOTM (twice in Warlords). Subjugate the other civs (by sword or word) and initiate the Pax Romana.

    Game settings:
    Playing as: Augustus of Rome
    Rivals: 4 AIs
    Difficulty: Deity
    Starting Era:
    Speed: Normal
    Options: Permanent alliances, no goody huts, no random events
    Victory Conditions:
    All enabled

    Map settings:
    Map: Fractal
    World Wrap: Cylindrical
    Mapsize: Worldsize_small
    Climate: Climate_temperate
    Sea level: Sealevel_medium

    Augustus is Imperialistic and Industrious, and you start with Fishing and Mining.
    The Imperialistic trait gives +100% great general emergence and +50% production of settlers

    The Industrious trait gives +50% wonder production and double production speed of Forge

    Unique unit: Praetorian (replaces Swordsman)
    The Praetorian benefits from: base strength = 8, 0% city attack bonus, and 45 hammers to build (on normal speed). This compares with the Swordsman which has: base strength = 6, 10% city attack bonus, and 40 hammers to build (on normal speed).

    Unique Building: Forum (replaces Market)
    A Market that also provides 25% increase to great person points. :dubious: Remember to build one in your GPF.

    Any espionage-culture victories will be counted as cultural victories.
    The barbarians start without any techs.

    Adventurer Class bonuses:
    Play at Emperor difficulty.

    Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

    With very few AIs, a lot of commerce, an IND leader, stone, marble, there's a tremendous margin for funky plays.
    (Less AIs = less competition for early gambits.)

    Settling for a high production capital is very tempting (like 1W) to me, even though it delays working the corn.

    Main questions I'll aim to answer asap in this map :
    - how far are the AIs ? how constested is the land ? do I use my hammers on settlers / workers or wonders ? Being IMP¨on top of IND helps with this trade off.
    - how much do I want to beeline ? Ex : Oracle --> Aesthetics is kinda tempting with marble around but so is a Civil Service beeline with a good capital.

    Things to do in the funkiest of worlds :
    - Found Judaism, build the Temple of Artemis as a mini Great Library and get an Academy from city 2. (Terrible choices are the best choices.)

    I kinda hope this is an isolated start, so the wonder builders can let loose.

    Does the AI still start with deity level starting units on the adventurer save?
