    BOTM 170: Roosevelt of America.
Happy Valentines Day. Do you like to build Wonders? I hope so, this map has been designed to let you create an amazing Wonder Capital.
Do you like to crush easy opponents? That is not the intent for this game. :p

    Game settings:
    Playing as:
    Roosevelt of America
    Rivals: 5 AIs
    Difficulty: Emperor
    Starting Era:
    Ancient
    Speed: Normal
Options: Permanent alliances, no goody huts, random events enabled
    Victory Conditions:
    All enabled

    Map settings:
    Map:
    Fractal
    World Wrap: Cylindrical
    Mapsize: Worldsize_standard
    Climate: Climate_temperate
    Sea level: Sealevel_medium

Roosevelt is Industrious and Organized, and you start with Mining and Archery.
The Industrious trait gives +50% wonder production and double production speed of Forge

The Organized trait gives -50% civic upkeep and double production speed of Courthouse, Factory and Lighthouse

Unique unit: Navy SEAL (replaces Marine)
The Navy SEAL benefits from: 1-2 first strikes, and free promotions: amphibious and march. This compares with the Marine which has: 0 first strikes, and free promotions: amphibious.

    Unique Building: Mall (replaces Supermarket)
The Mall is awesome. You can buy flowers, candy, and Valentines Day cards there.

Here is a link to a list of the differences between Vanilla, Warlords and BtS.

    Software Versions

Windows: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the BUFFY mod version 3.19.005 installed. You can download the BUFFY mod here. Players using Windows Vista or Windows 7 are encouraged to read the notes on Vista fixes here.

Macintosh: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the Mac BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 installed. You can download the Mac BUFFY mod here.
    While playing...

Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

We will open 'spoiler' threads during the month for players to discuss what happens in their games. Do not discuss any details of your game outside those threads.

Hmmm, why are the oases producing so much food?

    I think I'll settle in place. :)

Because they are on grassland tiles (normal ones, not worldbuildered, are on desert tiles).

Yup. Except the oasis weren't worldbuildered; all the land in your starting area was desert and I changed it to grass.

Hopefully they haven't lost their marbles after Valentine's. One guy wanting to settle down, and the other hogging the shinies. Doesn't always end well :-(

Anywho... with the gold-digger showing there is no sea-food, settle in place looks like a no-brainer. Otherwise settling on stone or marble couldn't be tempting (an extra :hammers:!), but since there isn't a hidden river next to them (no extra :commerce:), I reckon it's best to settle where we are and spam cottages.

Sure hope there is some Wine nearby though. Maybe some wheat too, so they can cuddle up in the hay, slightly intoxicated.

    I'm so sweet.
    • When I first uploaded the game, I forgot to ensure none of the other civs had marble/stone. So, I rebuilt the game removing those resources (if there were any, and no guarantee I didn't miss some). And reuploaded it.
    • I messed up the release page (removed all three saves), so rather than leaving you without a game to play, I fixed it and uploaded it again. I added a day to release date and two days to due date.

Thanks for the explanation. I wonder if all that desert implies anything about all the land surrounding all the land in our starting area? :mischief:

Probably a good reason but I thought I should say that the game save is not available yet. Not sure when since the thread should like it should be up.

Not that I can think of.
Except your original starting area was elsewhere.

Note, when I reuploaded the game, I changed the start date to the 17th.
That's why the game isn't available to you now. Wait just a few hours.

Spoilers? I'm almost at 1AD :crazyeye:

Wouldn't it be nice to just create the spoiler threads when the game goes live? Some (not me!) can play really fast, and if there is a thread right away I reckon there is a higher chance of people writing about it. If the thread comes online a week after they're at 1AD (for instance), people generally won't remember much, and thus won't write.

Another advantage would be I would remember what I wanted to note/ask in the spoilers. ;)

    Abridged spoilers up now.

I usually take some notes while playing. (About losing exploring units to animals at low odds, being beaten to city location or wonder - stuff like that). And then never getting around to posting them. I would rather keep playing the game than stop and write about it.

I assume this means random events are on since that's the default setting.

That they are. But I wish it was mentioned specifically since it's so easy to miss. I always get surprised when they are on :D
